Don't know if they still work

Everyone knows about the nickname tricks for the Eeveelutions, I have only used two of them, Rainer for Vaporeon and Sakura for Espeon. Some people say that the nicknames for Gen I eeveelutions don't work anymore, even if you never used it before; some people say that the nicknames can work more than once if you put the nickname to an Eevee, close the app so the server registers the nickname, open the app and evolve it. I wanna know if this works because I really want a 100% IV Vaporeon )8

So, basically my questions are:
1.- Can you still use the Gen I eeveelution
nicknames that haven't been used yet?
2.- Can you use a nickname you already
used (Rainer in this case) using the
method mentioned earlier or any other
method?

Can't use Rainier anymore for Vaporeon, well you can but it will be a random eevolution.

If you name it Rainer, close the app, wait a day, hop on one foot, then you are 100% guarenteed to get a Vaporeon 33% of the time.

Each name guarentees its Eeveelution only one time. If you want a good IV Vaporeon, and don't want to risk a good Eevee becoming Jolteon or Flareon, you can try some raids for one and save the Eevee for Espeon or Gen4 or Gen6.

I'm fine with a perfect Eevee becoming Jolteon or Flareon. They have very high attack anyway, Flareon is even the 5th highest DPS!

When I was still a fairly new player, I kept needing more Jolteons for all the water defenders I saw all over the place, and nothing I read at the time ever said anything about only being able to use the name trick once each, so I kept naming all my good Eevees Sparky. Then every single one of them became a Jolteon when I evolved it, so I didn't question it. I just kept doing it, and it just kept working, so I had like 7 Jolteons before I finally decided I wanted my first Vaporeon, when I was level 28 or something.

I found out later that was apparently just coincidence that they all kept turning into Jolteons every time I wanted them to, but it made me wonder if the name trick can work more than once if you've never used any of the others.
