Note on XL Candy

XL candy is a unique resource that players will not obtain until they reach Lv.40, at which time it's available from various sources. While a Pokemon's max level is generally tied to the player's level, after reaching Lv.40 this restriction is lifted and it will be possible to instantly raise any Pokemon straight to Lv.50 given the resources.
