ZH/BS 14 sta|15 atk|10 def Snorlax Power Up or Wait?

I've had this level 19, CP 1796 Snorlax sitting in my collection for a while now and have been hoping to get one with comparable stats, but higher def over sta. Alas, I've only managed a L/EQ hatch and a couple painfully low CP/IV catches since and am only sitting on 31 candies. I plan to switch to a Snorlax buddy after I get my Lapras to 30, which will be soon, and luckily have a good amount of Stardust stockpiled.

So the question ends up being, would you wait for a Snorlax with a slightly better IV distribution or power this one up?

EDIT: Forgot to include current level and CP.

I would definitely power this guy up, he will be a BEAST defending gyms with that moveset.

Unless this one is incredibly low level and you have a bigger one you are already powering up, then I think it would be well worth investing in.

wtf kind of question is this. Thats a roughly 88% iv snorlax with the best defending moveset. Of course you power it up. I would cream myself if i found a snorlax like that and you're there worrying about negligible stat differences.

Not sure why you are so hung up on 5 points of IV. You have in your hands the best defender with the best moveset and EXCELLENT IV... Even if this one is 1000 CP, it is totally worth saving up candy to power it up. If you find a better one in the meantime, it is because you are REALLY lucky...

Sorry for what seems like an absurd question. It was meant to be more of a 'when' more so than an 'if' question.

I don't take or try to hold gyms very often and have a few comparable IV and high tier defenders. So for this Snorlax, as I haven't 'needed' it, I've been acquiring at least some candy before beginning to power it up and wasn't sure if I should stay on that path or start.

Depends on how much patience you have, but this one is not bad. To have ZH/BS is one change in 6. The rolled IV's are slightly above average (out of 18 possibilities you have the eight best).

The change on hatching a better ZH/BS one is 7/18 * 1/6 * 100 = 6,48%

your choice

Eighteen possibilities, are you joking?

That's not even close. The number of IV permutations from a hatched Pokemon is 216. IVs range from 10-15 so 6 possibilities, and there are 3 different stats that are rolled independently. 6^3=216.

hahaha yes, and also this

"The change on hatching a better ZH/BS one is 7/18 * 1/6 * 100 = 6,48%"

Not even close, first of all you have to actually hatch the Snorlax, from the 10k egg pool it is around a 3% that you get it, and then after you hatch it it has to get the same amazing moves and better IV's than this one.

I say POWER UP THAT BIG BABY!

I'm not saying it should be higher, I'm saying your value is far too high that you're giving this person way too much hope to get a better Snorlax.

Even assuming he gets a Snorlax from the next egg, in order for it to have better IVs it needs 15 attack (1/6), 14 or 15 stamina (2/6), and any defence (6/6)

Which results in 12 IV permutations out of 216. Of those 12 possibilities, he then has a 1 in 6 chance of getting the moveset he wants, so the odds are 12/1296, a little under 1 percent, JUST for the IV + moveset.

Like Meloscomo said, you still need to hatch the damn Snorlax in the first place. Even being generous and saying Snorlax hatches in 5% (1 in 20) of 10k eggs, now you have a 12 in 25920 chance of a 10k egg giving you first a Snorlax, second with the same moveset, and third, with equal or better IVs which is a ≈ 0.0463% chance, about 140 times lower than what your expected value was.

Not to mention all the walking it takes just to get a single 10k egg in the first place, especially if you're not constantly running 9 incubators.

Thank you (and Stormbeard99, Meloscomo) for looking at the math for this question. This helps a lot as I do pretty consistently have one to three 10k eggs incubating at a time and needed to understand how slim my chances would still be.

Power it up.

Power this one up for sure. Even if you do get a better Snorlax, which is incredibly unlikely, this one is still going to be better than like 99% of the other Snorlaxes out there that have different movesets and IVs.

The difference in actual combat effectiveness that your Snorlax has compared to a 15/15/15 is almost nothing, so it's not like it'll become useless if you do end up with a better one, therefore there isn't any downside to powering it up.

Think of it this way. Let's say you do get a better Snorlax. The first thing that you think of sure as hell isn't going to be "I wish I hadn't powered up my other near-perfect Snorlax".

The only problem with you level 19 snorlax is that he is level 19, and snorlax candies are not easy to get, even with buddy, but the iv and moveset are great.
