Yet Another "Is It Worth Powering Up?" Jolteon Edition.

I started playing the game a month ago and I finally got my first Jolteon. I've been hurting for a nice electric type for attacking and with the buff Jolteon just received, it looks like the perfect candidate. However...

My Jolteon's IVs are a little wonky. It's level 12 with 906 CP at 80%, 36/45 with 15 in Attack and Defense. So you can see the dilemma. The remaining 9 points missing are from HP, leaving it at a measly 6.

Other than that, the moveset it is fine with Thundershock and Thunder. How badly is the low HP going to effect this Jolteon? I've also looked around to find a way to tell how the IV stats effect the paper stats. In other words, how does the amount of points from 1 - 15 actually affect how much total HP my Jolteon has? Currently with this stat makeup, it's sitting at 62 HP at level 12. What if its HP IV stat was 15 at this level with another stat being at that 6? How much actual HP would it have?

Also, I see that on the page here that Jolteon 232 Attack, 201 Defense, and 130 Stamina. How does this directly equate to the final stats or it just there as arbitrary "power level" numbers?

As an aside, my account is level 25 now, so dust and candies aren't really a concern. I'd be willing to power it up if the low HP won't be a huge hindrance.

Jolteonis a glass cannon - does a lot of damage quickly, but can't survive much in the way of hits back.

I wouldn't worry too much about the IVs their influence isn't that significant.

I'd wait though - if you hatch eggs you'll soon get a Lvl20 evee which will have similar or better IVs and save you a ton of stardust. You also stand a decent chance of finding a wild one that's a higher level. Yes you only stand a 1 in 3 chance of it evolving into a Jolteon, but you'll get one reasonably quickly, and two out of three movesets are good for attacking (discharge frankly isn't a lot of use).

Alright. I'll hold out on another Jolteon. I can use this one for raising prestige in team gyms instead of attacking opposing gyms. I'm just so anxious for a good Jolteon! XD

Thanks for the advice!

Are you sure about discharge? I'm really like Jolteon with discharge. You can even dodge the incoming atk after using the move while you are receiving 2 atk when you use thunder or even thunderbolt ,isn't it better to get less dmg since it is a glass cannon as you say?

It's probably just a question of attacking style. For me discharge doesn't finish things off quickly enough and extends the possibility of mistiming a dodge of a charge move. With Thunder you can often finish of a Poke before it's used a second charge move.

If you like tickling Vapes to death, and dodging, then discharge will eventually get the job done :)

That's a lot of questions:) I'll give some simple advice, you'll soon get stronger jolteons with higher ivs and much much higher cps.
You have a lot of dust now but I promise you will want that dust later for something else, whether it be a better jolteon or a whole different mon.

Ivs don't matter much really at all but you will slowly accumulate high iv mons you will want to focus on. By the time you hit 30 you will have some badass ones.

Yeah, you're right about that. I do have a Vaporeon and Cloyster that have been my strongest so far. I have far more mid-range CP pokemon that I'm hesitant to use dust on. I've used only a bit of dust so far as I'm trying to be very selective about it. As a personal rule, I tend to hold on to pokemon that are 80% and up. I'm not so anal as to have absolutely perfect IVs or anything though. :P

In any case, I'll control myself and wait for better pokemon. Thank you very much for the advice!

I would power up this guy. It is not the very best, but it is quite ok. It will be great to fight any gyarados and to train dodging. Why wait? Wherefore? You will need probably 3-10 eevolutions to get another jolteon with a usable moveset.

If you want to take part in gym-fighting now, power him up now.

I know its not the coolest way, but try to start thinking about to power up when you reach level 25~30.

dI wouldn't power it up, esp if Eevee's are common in your area (which for most folks, seems to be).

I'm sitting on 15 Jolteons and 6 Vaps and 5 Flareons...

Transferred quite a few Jolts already with over 1500CP.

That said, for most people, Eevee candies are easy and you will find enough usable Eevees that you probably won't need to power it up yet or at all.

With the right moveset, I'm noticing I toss high IV mons all the time now due to wrong movesets so getting even a 0 IV mon with a usable moveset is far more useful in your play than high IVs (looking at you, Bulldoze Arcanine)...which is slow and suboptimal when attacking.

Since halloween special, when eevees became so increadible common, i collected about 200 eevees, i now have got 600 candies. Only three of my new eevees are better than 82IV. It is not sure at all, that one of them would become a better jolteon than that, original poster already has got.

I save my good eevees for generation 2 to get the new eevolutions. Thus, I use the vaporeons, jolteons and flareons i already have, even with slightly suboptimal IVs, and don't try to get new ones with better IVs.
