Why are my medal counts not updating?

Not that I care that much about all these medals, but I would like the bonuses that the type-specific medals offer. For example, I have caught over 100 Machop alone aside from any other fighting type and I still don’t have the 50 fighting type medal filled out. Also, I have caught over 50 Dratini, 100 Pikachu, among other medals that should be accounted for. So what’s the deal here? Why do I not get credit for all of my catches that should apply to medals?
