What did you get from incense during the event?
I live in a rural area (2 miles from town) where nothing ever spawns.... so frustrating. Occasionally I use incense, which works, but the best mon I usually get is an eevee with pidgeys and rattata much more common. (The only good mon I ever got on incense was a snorlax I caught just 2 weeks ago.)
Until now - the current event, that is. During the first hour I caught a larvitar! Haven't seen one since, but several rhyhorn/kabuto/geodudes/slugma/magcargo/onix/omanyte). I wasn't expecting much more than that, but just caught an aerodactyl (CP 1763), one of my favorite mons! How cool is that?!
I hate having to buy incense, and don't do it often, but right now I'm having fun...
BTW, one of my event 5k eggs just gave me a 100% kabuto! (I've gotten almost nothing but 5k's, but finally picked up a 10k earlier today). I don't have a lot of 100% IVs, so it's a nice addition.
What exciting mons has incense given you? Any great hatches?

first incense spawn on thursday evening: Larvitar. Since then: pidgeys, rattatas, rhydon, graveler, magicarp - everything, that normally spawns too.
I thought about buying more incense after one larvitar-spawn, but after i used all my level-up-incense, i decided to stick to incubators. I did not do the math (too much uncertainty), but i expect to get more larvitar-candy per poke-coin this way, not to speak of higher ivs on the pokemon.
You're right, of course, but I have to use incense so I can play at home; when I'm at a place with spawns, I don't.
I compare one incubated hatch (1/3 incubator) with one incense, as the costs are roughly the same depending on discount.
Walking fastly, one incense gives you 12 spawns, random IV between 0 and 15, matching to your biome. These catches give you 1200 dust, maybe a bit more.
One third of an Incubator (on a 5km-egg) gives you 1 hatch, iv between 10 and 15, independend on biome, and roughly 800 dust.
This is a bit hard to compare, i would say, stardust is roughly the same, amount of candy: Incense is better, quality of candy: incubator is better, consumption of balls / berries: incubator is better as you do not need to catch what you hatch. - this does matter in a region with few pokestops.
In addition to this: Many postings here read as to have found their rare pokemons hatched, me included.
Even on a place without spawns, even in a rural region, i prefer to walk a second egg over using incense.
Sometimes I just like to sit at home and play the game, and I have no other way to do so other than using incense. Often I use a lucky egg and do mass evolutions at the same time.
I have to compare it to the cost of other things I could be doing with that money (say, $5 for 8 incense):
One drink in a bar; a discounted movie ticket; one cappucino at Starbucks.... It's certainly no waste of money (or gym coins) in comparison.
I've only tried one incense so far during this event, and I just got standard junk: one or two each of Pidgey, Spearow, Goldeen, Venonat, and Sentret.I might give it another chance, but I've been running near empty on pokeballs for most of this event.
My hatches have been better, though, with the batch of nine 10KM eggs I hatched. All but one were from before the event, but I got a Chansey, Dratini, 2x Larvitar, Aerodactyl, Skarmory, Pineco, Gligar, and a Sudowoodo. Most of them were pretty good stats too, and now I finally have my first Blissey.
