So I know thunderbolt and thunder are both rank A move set for Jolteon as a attacker. But which is better thunderbolt or thunder?

I did the calculation, the overall DPS with thunder is about 3% (~5% if you don't dodge any skills) higher when attacking (assuming you don't waste energy, but you always will waste some), but you have more flexibility with thunderbolt.

If you compare thunderbolt vs thunder and flamethrower vs fire blast, you will find that thunderbolt has shorter cd than flamethrower while thunder has longer cd than fire blast.
Which means thunderbolt is relatively stronger as the 50 Energy counterpart.
To sum up, I will take thunderbolt over thunder, but fire blast over flamethrower.

Thank for your analysis and you 're absolutely right. If we take into account Jolteon's low HP that he can't stand too long in a battle against strong opponents like Dragonites, Thunderbolt will help him to finish the fight quickier than Thunder.

My geezer manager write the message on the subject just like you man. Very very funny. Anyway, the DPS difference is very small, so the major difference is in your gameplay preference, how much you dodge and stuff.

It all comes down to to your preference. I prefer one charge bar attacks rather than 2 or 3.

I love my Thunder Jolteon.

Thunderbolt, which is good (A-rated) at all.

I prefer Thunderbolt, because if I use it right after dodging, thunderbolt is quick enough to dodge the next attack, whereas thunder isn't, and therefore you take more damage. And as we know, Jolteon's tankiness isn't the best, so you'd better dodge !

Consider the only scenario where you will use Jolteon: Gyarados (to a lesser extent, Vaporeon, but Gyarados is the main usage)

Thunder probably has the most cinematic effect (i.e. a Jolteon of 300 CP less than a Gyarados can thunder half a health bar off a Gyarados), but Thunderbolt is probably more practical as you can use it after Gyarados uses Dragon pulse/twister and still dodge another DP/Twister after thunderbolt. Of course, if it's a Hydro Pump gyarados then Thunder will not affect your dodging after the hydro pump, but you never know what moveset the defending Gyarados has.

I keep a thunderbolt and a thunder jolteon anyway, as long as it doesn't have discharge it's a good pokemon.

You want one of each :)

Thunderbolt has the edge for dodging, but Thunder just burns through Pokes so quickly. If I know the Poke has a single bar charge I'll use Thunder whilst against aqua-tail I'll generally use Thunderbolt. If I don't know the move I'll just wade in with Thunder.

My favourite attackers even before the buff.
