Why do people think he's good? Dragonite does his job attacking into Snorlax better than he does; he sucks on defense, as he gets crushed by Vaporeon / Dragonite, and he's incredibly easy to dodge every one of his moves. Rhydon just isn't that good at all, seeing as his glaring counter is the most common available pokemon in the game (Vaporeon), and his niche attacking into Snorlax is outdone by Dragonite.

Because most people thinks that CP means how good/strong a mon is and Rhydon is one of the higher CP mons that is easier to get anywhere. I really smile when I see a gym with 3 or 4 rhydons, one single Vaporeon and you can beat them all easily, fast, and without wasting resources.

The only good thing about Rhydon for me is that is very easy to prestige against it.

He's a terrible defender, no doubt, very much like Arcanine and somewhat like Dragonite. But its high CP puts him in the back of the gym. On offense though, he's pretty good and relayively easy to get vs. Dragonite. Stone Edge is a cool move too.

I agree that Dragonite is better but Rhydon is far from terrible as an attacker.

he is basically a poor, poor (did I mention poor?) man's Dragonite in that sense. Much easier to get, but also far inferior as an attacker. He can get the job done against Snorlax, but he's a niche attacker because of the Vaporeon meta.

Once you attack with a DB/DC Dragonite, anything else just feels slow and clunky.

That said, he's still a better defender against Vaporeon than Arcanine was due to his better base stats, stronger moves, and being offensively neutral.

"better Defense than Arcanine" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Arcanine has always been a terrible defender, even without considering the ubiquity of Vape.

I don't think the comparison to Arcanine was meant as an endorsement, but rather as a response to a previous comment.

As far as a defender, I don't think one sitting near the top of a gym, especially if it's a large gym, is a problem, similar to Dragonite. In both cases, despite serious weaknesses, they are solid enough so long as they contribute variety a gym, to be acceptable.

Because he's easy to obtain unlike Dragonite you got to work with what the game gives you.

I realize he's much easier to obtain than Dragonite, but to place him in the same attacking tier as the big dragon is just stupid.

I realize he's a fine pokemon all things considered, but to place him in the top tier as an attacker ... that's just a bit much for me.

"Easier to obtain" depends on the area/biomes. I live near a major river, have five Dragonite but only two Rhydon.

Generally speaking everyone will agree Rhydoh is easier to obtain than Dragonite. I agree I also don't believe that Rhy is a tier 1 attacker, but def not a bad option.

Want to trade places? I started mass evolving Ryhorns back when they were useless and I was flooded with candies for them

Rhydon is good because of this base stats, high CP and moveset. Rhyhorn is also very common, easy to get and evolve, so it's a bit obvious why he is an option. Not everybody has access to unlimited Dragonite, Snorlax, etc.

"Dragonite does this job better"... Dragonite do almost EVERY job better than almost everyone, so you can erase any argument about it. he's hors concours.

Rhydon is very bulky and hits hard everyone that dont resist him, of course that being weak to vaporeon is a BIG weakness, but all in all Rhydon is a pretty strong mon.

At the end of the day, there are only 2 hard to beat defenders - Snorlax and Lapras. And really 1 top all purpose attacker - Dragonite. I can make a case for Vaporeon but every other mon has sugnificant weaknesses in defense and great matchups on offense.

The funny thing with Dragonite is that it doesn't have a natural matchup given his moveset and matches up poorly against itself and Lapras, 2 of the top defenders.

I would definitely put Vape in the top tier, but that's basically how this game goes right now. The CP disadvantage kinda sucks for him, but Exeggutor is just outside that top D tier with Confusion/Psychic moveset -- still gets thrashed by Dragons tho.

We have level 10 gym that gets attacked regularly, so
lowest cp pokemon drops out in many cases and today first Rhydon came :D
Same guy (girl) who's pokemon dropped out earlier today.

I think this basicly means that guy (girl) doesnt have any other strong pokemon left and she still wants to stay in the gym.

If this rotation continues, soon gym is full of Rhydons lol
Enemies will laugh to our gym soon lol

He's one of those "looks can be deceiving" pokemon. Looks big and scary, but he's not a defender. Super duper weaknesses to both grass and water beat him up easily. However, as an attacker he's one of the best now thanks to his base stats. Even having low IV stats doesn't hurt his performance.... much like Snorlax. The only move you don't want to end up with is Megahorn.

Only Lapras, Snorlax and Chansey are great defenders. Rhydon isn't as bad as Gyarados in my opinion though.

I love him for attacking though, he deals with Snorlax very well and he has access to great movesets.
