Basically what are some pokemon you use for certain matchups or moves you would recommend for Gym Battleing.

I'll start.

If you are attacking a Hydropump Vaperon with a Razor Leaf / Solar Beam Combo.

Do not fire Solar Beam as soon as your charge bar is full. Hydro will fire while you are solar beaming.

((you can with Vinewhip/SB))

I understand your reasoning, but in my experience, Venusaur can take the hit and live to deliver a second Solar Beam, wiping out Vaporeon. (I believe the Hydro Pump attack even helps to re-charge the Solar Beam quickly.)

Depends on if your prestiging or killing.

Depends on if your prestiging or killing.

You used the word "attacking" and not "training," so I assume you meant killing, and my response was thus regarding killing as well. Personally, I never prestige Vaporeon with Venusaur. I almost always use Tangela, and sometimes Parasect with Solar Beam.

Here are some pokemon to consider using more in Gyms.

Slowbro with WaterGun/Water Pulse makes a great attacker into Snorlax (with Zen) and Espeon.

Tangela's 2 bar charge moves (either new Knot or old Power whip) are arguable better for prestiging than Solar Beam. The DPS is so close the added dodge flexibility is worth it. Not to mention if you get the kill with 3 moves.

Starmie with Water Gun/Hydro Pump is even better for these.

Wigglytuff is a phenomenal prestiger
?? ?? Don't settle for feint attack

Totally agree. I have a small army of Wigglies between CP 900-1500, and almost always use one as my 6th prestiger, in case one of my specialists meets a premature demise. The Wiggly prevents me having to use one of the other specialists for a job other than the one he was intended for.

Ideally, pound/hyper beam for Wigglies, or pound/play rough.

Do you position your Wiggles as 1st in line and then switch ASAP (so if specialist does feint it will default to him possibly taking a hit instead of next specialist)? Or some other strategy for line-up?

Last in line, unless the Wiggly itself is a specialist (e.g. vs. Snorlax), but that is a great idea. Never thought of that. It's not uncommon for me to have as many as three Wigglies in the lineup.

Not as high as Wigglytuff, but some similar higher than average stamina pokemon that can be used for prestige:
Lanturn - Charge Beam/Thunderbolt
Noctowl - Wing Attack/Sky Attack
Miltank - Tackle/Body Slam
Furret - Quick Attack/Hyper Beam

I like 2-bar electric attacks (i.e. thunderbolt) for prestiging against Gyarados, because three hits with thunderbolt will usually finish the job, as opposed to having to fully charge up a second one-bar thunder.

If you have no machamp and no heracross, you can try for Rocksmash / Dynamic Punch on a Poliwrath. He can take out Blissey and Snorlax too; It can be used to prestige these top defenders.

I have one. What CP level do you recommend it to be at if I want to use it for attacking instead of prestiging?

CP level for attacking instead of prestiging?

As high as you can, at least level 30 (diminishing returns after that)

That's what I normally do, but I've seen so many posts claiming that it's a waste to power up attackers (I don't understand their reasoning), that I thought I'd ask the question.

It is a waste of stardust, but it saves fighting time. Tradeoff.

But I am able to very quickly replace stardust that I consume, so to me it isn't a waste. As you say, I gain fighting time, and lost time isn't something one can replace.

I like tangela, ivysaur and meganium more than jolteon to prestige vapes, jolteon can't take a beating like they can.

Tangela does great against Vapes and Gyras. I have an army of Tangelas for all my prestiging needs for different levels.

Raichu does seem better than Jolteon some times, it's because it's quicker to fire and dodge?
My highest is only 1400cp so it feels fragile, maybe I should bring it to 1700-1800 for 2600cp Gyarados...

I'm liking skarmony to prestige Snorlax/exeggutor. Forretress also, to a lesser extent. Just hate that thing.

Oh I got a all steel 1500cp Skarmony, I thought it should be good for something... So Snorlax?

Up

Yep. It's got good stats for prestiging and excellent resistances. All of its movesets are good(just not all good for exeggutor.)

Slowbro with ice beam against Dragonite, works really well, water gun better than psychic I think. Slowbro can take more hits that the regular Dragonite counters (Cloysters...)

Kingdra with dragon breath and dragon or ice charge move works without dodging against non dragon breath Dragonite. A non dodging match between DB Kingdra and DB Dragonite is like a race to death for both mons.

This is all for prestiging, 1900-2000cp attacker vs 3000cp Dragonite or so

I like to look at Mudkip. He's a nice boy and a good pokemon.

My 1200 CP Azumarill with RS/IB is one of my prestigers against Dragonite. He's a tough little water fairy. High HP relative to its CP. I may power him up a little to ~ 1400 CP to be a little more affective against 2800-3000+ CP Dnites.
