Is powering up this Gyarados worth it?

I've had this guy sitting on the back burner, mainly because Vaporeons so easy to come by. I have 14 Vaporeons over 2k CP. My top two with Hydro Pump are at 2609 and 2551 (I've never used dust or candy to power them up)

If I max him to my level we are talking 116k dust and 106 candies, both of which are doable, but will tap me out. It would put him at 2976 Cp. I've never attacked or put this mon in a gym. Is it worth it? Will he blow away the WG/HP Vaporeons?

He's 100 IV and my only Gyarados.

I powered up my bite / HP gyarados long before the update because he was 100%. Since the CP changes he's a blast to attack with. I've left him several times in gyms (only because he was the highest) and it usually lasts awhile.

I don't think it matters what you put in gyms right now, nothing seems to stay long and honestly its easy to take down gyms with trash CP mons

Much the same here, seems most people around here just put Tauros they have caught or other discardable Pokémon in gyms just as placeholders to hopefully hold until they collect that day. Unfortunately high level gyms are a thing of the past, and it doesn't really seem to matter if you are first or 3rd in the typical level 3 gyms, they drop or they don't. Even though he's not a great defender, he could have some value due to high CP if they ever put a reasonable gym mechanic back in place.

Ugh, hate dumping everything into an attacker, but he looks like fun!

good point. hopefully it will shift into an equilibrium situation where people will typically leave good mons in Gyms so that they can hold on longer...

Too much free riding is never good for any game.

I power up mine and he's only 91% and has Dragon Pulse. Gyarados is a great attacker and his Hydropump does real damage, if a Jolteon attacker misses one of those critical dodges they're toast.

I'm using a 2900 gyarados with hydro and it's very good. I can't compare to vaporeon though since I don't use it.

I don't think I could let a usable 100iv poke sit in my inventory without powering it up.My vote is go for it.

I neglected powering attackers until recently and it's been great blowing through gyms.

Ugh, you bastards! Screw it, I'll do it. There's still a few days of the event and pretty much any other mon I'd like to power up, the issue is candies and not dust.

Grab a floppy fish and go for a long walk. At least the buddy system is good for this beast :-)

Hell yea. 100 iv added to the team, it'll feel good once you max it and grind your dust back.

It's been done! What's done is done.... Didn't quite get him to max, he does look like a boss.

Just to say hi from your buddy (100% iv)...
I love it sooooo much that it is my highest level Pokemon (though not of highest cp).
