Kingdra vs Gyarados on the dragonite matchup

Just evolved a Lv 29 seadra and got lucky with a DB/Outrage but I'm seriously questioning its effectiveness against dragonite when comparing it to gyarados (which isn't the best counter to dragonite).

Vs dragon moves Dragonite

I think its a no contest. Gyarados definitely wins, as the SE Stab defensive dragon moves will force kingdra to dodge every single dragonite move.

Vs Steel moves dragonite
Now this is a closer fight. Both kingdra and gyarados resists steel so quick moves no longer need to be dodged. DB on kingdra fares well against DT on gyarados, as the lower attack is compensated with STAB and also allows for optimal dodging. Outrage on kingdra is also more powerful. I think Kingdra wins here

What do you guys think? Do you prefer using a DB/Outrage kingdra against dragonite instead of using gyarados? And did I miss out any other potential use of a DB/Outrage kingdra?

Kingdra is more sentimental for me. Gyarados is probably better because it gets rid of Dragonite about as quickly with dragon moves and lasts longer

I love to fight my kingdra - it attacks are DB/HP but it is still great. I use it very often vs vaporeon - vaporeon is not very effective against me and even not using special attack i can beat 2800cp vap using my 1900 kindgra

I'll be honest, I use an entire army of mons before I use either of them.

Now I think about it...
My dragonite field army consists of
5 level 30 cloysters (double ice)
4 Level 30 Jynx (double ice)
4 Level 30 Piloswine (double ice)
1 Level 27 Lapras (though kinda trash cuz of DP)

honourable mention:

Pound/Moonblast Level 30 Clefable

honourable honourable mention:

dragon hidden power and Zap Cannon Porygon 2

honourable honourable honourable mention:

...Kingdra? lol

Exactly.

Mine is 7 dragon move dragons ranging from 3500-3K.

3 Ice move Laprases ranging from 2416-2165. About to add a third post event.

3 Cloysters.

A ton of Jynxes but only one powered above lv20.

Now because my Gyradoses are around 2800 with dragon moves I would probably go to it first. But i'm not skipping the above mons first so it's not likely to ever happen.

This is also why I didn't bother to power up my Dragon moves Kingdra.

Got the same moveset, DB/OR, on my kingdra. Its only 82 IV and 1925 CP, but i guess its viable at this lvl. My 100 IV 3000 CP gyarados with DT/OR will do the job faster, but i guess DB is more fun to use. Gyarados is bulkier, but i dont think their dps varies a lot since kingdra gets STAB and gyarados doesn't.

Edit: i will use my DT/OR nite or Lapras before considering kingdra or gyarados.

Kingdra gets the job done at lower CP making him optimal for prestiging against nite. Attacking an enemy nite I would go with Lapras or Cloyster above all else then probably with Gyarados due to higher CP, health, and likelihood that the nite has dragons moves that I can still dodge for little damage taken.

No good against Dragonite, too squishy. He is best used against back to back water/fire.

Most people have a maxed Gyarados or two for gym placement so he also ends up being a better go-to for attacking... whereas Kingdra at ~2000 CP is mostly a novelty. Better as a prestiger than attacker by far.

I would like this mon with same move set vs vaporeons.

I have a 100% IV DB/B Kingdra powered up to level 37 (CP 2320), and it is a lot of fun to use against Dragonites, but I can't afford to ever miss dodging a charge move. If the Dragonite has steel wing, the Kingdra will win handily; if it has a dragon quick move, it will be a lot closer, but the Kingdra will still win if I don't make any mistakes. (Blizzard on Kingdra doesn't get STAB, but it is double super effective against Dragonite).

I also have a DT/O Gyarados powered up to level 37.5 (CP 3043), and it will tear through Dragonites fast, and with enough bulk to handle two Dragonites in one go.

I love the Kingdra, but its lower HP and weakness to dragon moves do not compare well with the DT/O Gyarados.

I think the best use for Kingdra is a 1400CP one with DT/O against water types...

Dragonite with Outrage hits extremely hard and with the dodge bug, has a high chance of knocking you out.

HP and lesser damage taken is more useful for prestiging so it's probably a decent prestiger and that's it...Course, using a grass is probably faster/better overall...

I agree with your analysis, although I've never used either against a Dnite. I live in a frozen wasteland, and therefore, half my storage is Cloyster, Piloswine, Jynx and Dewgong.

Don't listen these fools :D. I have one with WG and Outrage. it works kinda well But it's 1600cp and Quick Attack is not that effective. Yours is really cool!!!!

I wish mine had both dragon too!
