IV and GYM battles

I looked for a search feature to dig through the questions but could only find the search for pokes

How do the IV scores actually affect attackers and defenders?

thx in advance.

I am going to quote the following from https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon-stats-advanced about IV values:

are integer values that range from 0-15 and are added directly on to the Pokémon's base stats.

Does this answer your question?

In practice, if the base stats are high then they make little difference. For most Pokes you're likely to use on a regular basis the difference is pretty minimal. They do have some impact on cp, so there is some difference in gym position.

IVs were just added for extra 'flavor' so everyone's pokes are a little different. Having great IVs or horrible IVs won't affect much at all. Comparing a 70% and a 100% back to back in battle you wouldn't even notice.

It makes it fun to hunt for something better than what you already have, or start a small collection of 'perfects'.

Don't let IVs hinder your fun though, they are there for just the opposite. Just icing on the cake, not a bite out of it.

IV affects defending; level affects attacking; CP affects training.

IVs are flat increases to your Pokemon's base stats. These base stats (in conjunction with your Pokemon's level) are used in calculating the CP of your Pokemon as well as calculating the damage they deal and receive during combat.

However, because damage is rounded down to the nearest integer, often times IVs don't make a significant difference in battle.

For attacking, IVs don't make a lot of difference. Good IVs can save you a few power ups to get a pokemon to a strong attacking position.

For defending, IVs can influence your CP by 300+ points at Lv30, which can have a significant effect on your gym placement if you are in an are with a lot of other high level players.

If your area was full of high level players, these players wouldn't be powering up 0 IV Pokemon in the first place so this "300+" difference is unrealistic.

With several checks of the CP calculator on top tier Pokemon I could only get a ~200 CP increase from 7/7/7 IVs to 15/15/15 at level 30.

You still want high IVs for defenders because even though 1 Vap won't be 300 apart with another in a high level gym, being 50 or 100 CP apart means being on the bottom or in the middle or middle / top, etc.

For me, it's usually 2700CP bottom 4, 2800CP middle 3, 2900+, top 3.

So - for lack of a better example - if i find Jynx with CP~200 that can "battle with the best of them" or a CP~1500 with "room for improvement as far as battling goes" which is the one to keep.

yes - i know Jynx isn't something to battle with... she's in there for the concept (and the most recent example of my catches).

It all depends on your circumstances. How competitive your gyms are, how much candy/dust you have, how rare the poke in question is, is it an attacker or defender, are you a hardcore player or more casual.

There's not really a correct answer to this type of question since it depends on so many variables.

But in short, IVs won't affect the performance much at all, every 25% will be about 100 CP(for gym placement for defending), and don't expect to find 90%+ of everything you want, it may never come.
