Hi everyone.

I have been reading this forum for a long time now. This is my first post though.

I'm a very casual player. Been playing since the beginning and im level 29. I have 3 questions I hope to get some qualified input on.

1;
Caugt my first dragonite today. 2223 cp with steelwing / Hurricane. 60 IV. Do i power that one up or wait for more dratini? Alternative is a 89 IV hatched dratini. I currently have 95 candy and 225000 stardust. Overall this is my first dragonite.

2;
100 IV Eevee with 387 Cp - any Good? I havn't used name trick for Umbreon and Espeon. I have decent vape, flareon and jolteons. What to do?

3;
Finally finished reached 50 chansey candy. I have two options.
949 CP - 71 IV - 12A/10D/10S or
792 CP - 89 IV - 11A/14D/15S
I have 51 candy.

Thanks in advance. Cheers!

Evolve dratini. Make your eevee an umbreon - a guaranteed good prestiger. Evolve the higher level chansey and you'll need less candy for power-ups.

I disagree on the Umbreon. A 100% prestiger isn't necessarily better than a lower % one, as you want roughly half the defenders CP (and higher IV = higher CP at the same level, so at most you save a little dust).

I'd say go for the Espeon. Its max CP is exactly 3000 at lvl 40, and to reach that you need a 100% one. Although lvl 40 might be unreachable right now (it used to be reachable by the multitap method, but I'm not sure if that still works), they might change that and then you have the only 3k Espeon in town. Which is cool!

Also, Espeon can be used as a defender (not top tier, but decent CP and hard hitting with Confusion). For this use, IV's actually matter.

Welcome!
1. Wait to evolve dratini, better IV and chance at better moves.
2. Evolve to Espeon or Umbreon, Espeon if you are willing to invest dust in attackers / defenders. Umbreon for prestiging
3. Tough call. I would evolve the higher IV one myself but I also ran out of candies without getting Blissey to 30. Depends on local area gyms and viable CP in your area.

Best of luck!

I agree with Carnie Vorex, I just want to add:

1) Steelwing/Hurricane is a pointless moveset because everything Steel/Flying is super effective against, also takes normal damage from Dragon moves. Since SE and STAB are same bonus (for now at least), there is no matchup where it is favorable.

2) Umbreon will astonish you how effective it is despite Espeon have nearly double the CP. He is even worth pouring dust into.

3) I agree with Carnie, especially since Def and Sta IV don't help Chansey much, attack does much more.

Steelwing/Hurricane is a pointless moveset because everything Steel/Flying is super effective against, also takes normal damage from Dragon moves. Since SE and STAB are same bonus (for now at least), there is no matchup where it is favorable.

Except that Flying type moves for Dragonite (i.e., Hurricane) also get STAB. Super effective damage + STAB > Neutral damage + STAB.

  1. The moveset is quite mediocre, though the max CP is still higher than anything other than better Dragonites and Tyranitar.

    Considering you've said you're a very casual player and you've only gotten 95 Dratini candies in about 9 months of play, it would take quite a while until you could get enough candies to evolve a Dratini into a Dragonite and on top of that, power it up to a usable level. If you power up this one and put it in a gym that has low turnover, it'll earn you plenty of Pokecoins, and no ones going to care what moveset it has.

    If you just want to collect pokecoins, then it would cost you less to power up this Dragonite than to evolve and power up another one. It's currently level 23 and taking it to 30 would cost 50 candies, 58k dust and bring it just shy of 2900 CP, but you don't even have to power it up all the way to 30 if your area's not that competitive.

    But if you want one of the best attackers in the game, then this Dragonite isn't it, and you'd be better off walking it and working towards evolving another one. You might end up with Steel Wing again but if you don't try then you'll never know. It's still usable as it is currently against many Pokemon but might struggle to take down a Blissey in time.

  2. If you already have a good Vape, Flareon and Jolteon why not go for an Espeon? There's less randomness when there's only 6 possible movesets as opposed to 15 if you do a random evolve. Perfect IV Pokemon are hard to come by, personally I wouldn't risk potentially getting a Flareon or a Jolteon. However, if you are fortunate to get a Vaporeon, it has the highest max CP of the Eeveelutions, so it'd be the most useful for sitting in gyms.
  3. Comes down to how much you value slightly higher CP vs walking less. The one with the higher IVs will have slightly higher max CP, 2677 vs 2661 at level 30, but it'll cost you 22 more candies, or 110 km of walking. Personally I'd evolve the first one, since it'll take less walking to get it to a usable CP and therefore start earning extra coins sooner.

Guess I am the only who agrees with Samuel.

  1. Poor moveset..don't invest. Use to take down enemy gyms. Match against 2500cp and above defenders.
  2. I have found Umbreon is a great prestiger works well in the situations that your Chancey,Blissey and Wiggly don't. I have a 100%iv lvl30 Espeon with Con /FutSi and never use it. I opt for a Zh/HB Blissey if I come across something weak to Psychic instead.
  3. Evolve the higher IV one. Will be better eventually. But in the mean time a 15**cp P/HB Blissey is the best Prestiger in game. Keep it that way in my opinion. But I am someone who drops a $20 in once a month or so that way I don't have to worry about defenders and can just enjoy the game.

my espeon got C/FS and was worth the dust, he hits like a truck although the dodging bug is a bit of annoying.

  1. Wait until you have enough dratini candy, that moveset is not worth those IV's, evolve the dratini and if you get a better moveset, power that one up.
  2. This one is a matter of preference for me, I'd rather roll the dice on a gen 1 evolution, for me both espeon and umbreon are not usable (both overshadowed by other pokemon), whatever you choose, evolve first and if you get a good evolution/moveset combo, then power up.
  3. Evolve the 792 one and keep walking, I draw the line at 82% IV's so there's no way I'm evolving a 71%, specially if candy is rare, I'd want to make it count.

evolve dratini, and if it gets a good moveset power that up
evolve the eevee into espeon if you dont prestige often, and umbreon if you do
If the dratini you evolve gets a good moveset,power it up and then evolve the higher cp chansey, but if the dragonite gets a bad moveset, save your stardust, evolve the better iv chansey, and then power it up.
