How the Meta of PvP Movesets Works

Hi guys.

Is there a resource I can use to learn about the advanced meta of PvP movesets? Some things I've wondered or have confused me:

-Shadowball is now a 1-bar move in PvP, but when I used it it seemed to charge up extremely fast compared to my other 1-bar moves.
-I've read about combos like Thundershock/Thunderbolt being good and wondered if something about being the same type made the charge move charge faster.
-How can I work out if it's more worthwhile using a STAB move or one with better type coverage?

Just wondered if there's a site or Youtube channel out there (or a page on this site) that can teach me this stuff.

The PVP move info displayed on the pokemon info screen is wrong, and a bit of a mess. Shadow Ball costs 55 energy in PVP. I'm guessing that anything higher than 50 energy is rounded up to one bar. There is a big difference between Flamethrower at 55 energy and Overheat at 80 energy, but they both shown as having 1 bar.

Yep, moves are different. In PvP, for example, Dazzling Gleam takes 70 energy and has 110 power (up from 100). Moonblast takes 70 energy and has 130 power. Power is the base for damage, before adjusting for attack, defense, typing, STAB (and if in PvE, friends bonuses and weather).

Also, fast moves are different. Mud Shot, Psycho Cut, and Thunder Shock generate energy very fast. Razor Leaf does way more damage than any other move. Counter, Shadow Claw, and a number of other moves are different as well.

Look at the bottom of the menu on the left. PvP Fast Moves and PvP Charged Moves will give you the base info. Sortable columns make the balance of move quality pretty clear.

Look up SwagTips on Youtube. Ryan does plenty of videos on his channel about PvP, that IMO, are better than any others out there, and he's also one of the writers for Gamepress.
