Has anyone actually used Gengar/Alakazam on attack since the update?

Are they as good as the stats imply?

They are exactly as the stats imply. Find one in a gym and let a charge hit you and you will be surprised. Don't forget they still have low hp though.

They hit pretty good, you had to dodge, if not you are done after one charge hit.

Used my Alakazam (psycho cut/psychic, CP 2333) against CP2900 Snorlax (Zen/Hyper). Definitely have to dodge but in this match up at least, hyper is so easy to dodge so it worked really well. Psycho cut is an easy fast move to use, with two hits between dodges. The animations are fun too - it's even cooler to train against.

You can definitely fit 3 (!) hits of Psycho Cut between the dodges! Sometimes it's four when you're fast and it also depends on the opponent's quick attack animation - sometimes the flash doesn't come right away so it earns you a tiny moment to fit this 4th hit ;)

I've got 2494 CP Alakazam with the best moveset and he deals crazy damage! He's my No1 attacker for almost everything now since he hardly has a bad matchup. With perfect dodging he can take down 2-3 top tier pokemon in a row.

I wonder the same but I have Alakazam with 89 IV with CP 1616 still can't decide about powering up because it has very very low hp.

When you dodge, Alakazam is a good option to kill those PKM which don't have a strong type-counter, as Lapras- and Snorlax, fast. Dodging is absolute possible because Psycho Cut is very fast.

Of course, Snorlax can be killed with Snorlax, Vaporeon or Gyarados too, but this takes longer. When there are multiple Snorlaxes or Lapras to be killed multiple times, time is an issue.
If you have a good Dragonite, he kill Snorlax about as fast, but not Lapras.

I consider Alakazam a good all-purpose-attacker when dodging.

that is actually good point. If you have to dodge everything (facing strong defender with strong quick move), you just spam Psycho Cut without using charged move, because even Psycho has 2.8 s cooldown and you get hit. So, I really need to get next Alakazam without Confusion :)

Thank you for the info , I'm gonna try it once I have enough stardust.

I would love to test to whether Alakazam takes less time to kill a snorlax then say a Gyrados.

Yes, you do more dps, but you are pausing to dodge quick moves of Snorlax

So do you really do more dps?

I'd guess another benefit with these 2 are low potion usage...Just a couple supers and you're at maxed health again...

id say alakazam is a better all around attacker than even dragonite. its only weak to a couple types ...unlikely to see in a gym. everything else it absolutely demolishes. psycho cut is a must have though. the low hp means youll have to dodge but if you dodge well and power up your alakazam itll no doubt be your go to attacker. happy the game finally realized how good alakazam should be
