Out of pure curiosity, do yous have any hard rules for yourselves that you commit to on managing and investing candy and dust?

  1. I only fully power up mons above 90% IVs (currently to level 37.5) with the best attacking movesets. I previously leveled a couple best defensive movesets but I'll likely put those on hold now due to the new gym metagame.
  2. I keep up to three mons with ideal attacking movesets and up to two moms with ideal defensive movesets that are ranked on GamePress' tier lists. Other than that I keep one for each moveset variety and discard repeats based on IVs. I do not commit any dust to the secondary attacking/defending mons or the less than ideal moveset mons.
  3. I power up any/all 100% IV mon to level 30, regardless of moveset.

Is there a non "illegal" app to check ivs quickly? I've just been transferring everything unless the in game appraisal says it's 100% lately.

It's gets to be a hassle checking more than one or two on the web at a time.

You would transfer a 98% IV? What do u got like 10 mons in your bag? Haha.

I use Pokie Genie app for checking IVs.

Yes I would. I've got most of the Pokemon I'm interested in powered, unless it's 100 I wouldnt power it anyway. I just keep one of the highest cp typically of whatever unevolved Pokemon. My bag is full of pidgeys and weedles mostly. Usually sits at 499/500.

Ugh I wish. If you find something let me know! The amount of time and stardust I've used to confirm IVs is dumb.

I have a good base of mons with ideal IVs and movesets, so TBH I've just been auto transferring without checking as well. The only ones I check IVs for nowadays are those that I hatch.

Thanks!

Only downside to these rules is I do not have a top tier Snorlax or Lapras to power up (or even a Chansey now). But fingers crossed I eventually hatch a couple good ones.

Yeah I don't have a great snorlax either. My highest CP one is 62 IV. My highest IV is 98 but very low CP without a good moveset. I just recently hatched a 93 IV Chansey though.

I got lucky and saw a gym with a ditto and chansey with an open spot. Threw mine in. Would be incredibly annoying to fight 2 1200+ chanseys twice in a row. They are worth powering up knowing its boring your opponent to death.

Hah that's so awesome. This very thing is atop my "to do list" in the game.

Thanks I'm having fun with it. Chose a lower iv/cp in favor of better hp and lower att. Hope you a good one soon.

No hard rules - I probably spend dust and candy far too freely for some people.

Just evolve to PKM-Level 30, and not to max. This is my hard rule.
Maybe i will breake with this rule when
(a) I have more than 200.000 stardust or
(b) my attackers start to feel week in actual gym fighting or
(c) I would regularely have to take the bottom place in a gym due to lack of CP or
(d) i find a usefull 100%-IV-Pokemon with good move-set.

Good stuff guys!

I only have 3 main rules for dust and candy management:

1) I usually collect dust to at least 100K+ and then start using. This rule supersedes everything due in part of how grinding occurs more so for dust collecting after level 30.

2) I invest in monsters above 82%; but with 2 main objectives: if they have "perfect moveset (either offensive or defensive) and or if they are above 90% and listed as a top 10 defender (i.e. Dragonite, Snorlax, Lapras, Vaporeon, etc.) This one is critical because CP matters so much for gym placement and the difference of CP from 82% monster and 100% one is usually no more than a few hundred.

3) Lastly, I hoard candies to mass evolve when I'm at least 100K or less to next level (and I'm currently level 36). Despite the double xp and stardust we are currently earning, I tend not to mass evolve as gaining xp requires a lot more effort after level 30 (even more so after level 34).

Hope some of these gave you an insight on how I play the game considering a lot of things start to change after you hit level 30.

Cool, thanks for sharing.

Out of curiosity, why is XP harder to get after hitting Level 30 and Level 34? Is it because you find more high CP pokemons and hence they are harder to catch?

As a solo player, i only do training.

For my defenders :
I powered up pokemons with the highest CP possible like vaporeon, exeggutor, arcanine and now gyarados, rhydon, golem...(Of course dragonite/snorlax/lapras)
All of them to lvl 30 max with at least 87%iv.
I dont care about movesets, if opponent want to take down a gym, he will...
That give me a 2400/3000 CP defenders, enough to hold gym

For my attackers :
i keep them with good moveset only and i power up (or not) to around 1600 CP

Also i power up only if the cost start at 2500 stardust
