The Gym Rework - CP no longer king

I'm hoping gym placement will be something like by level now. This would mean one could max out their favorite mons for good gym placement. Yes, trolls could then place a high level Caterpie or other riffraff at the top of the gym but at least it will cost them dearly in Stardust/Candy.
Also, if anything they could make the tie-breaking sort be CP, so the Caterpie would still not last long as the gym leader. Which Pokemon do you think would be the new Dragonite on top of every gym? Probably mostly Blisseys until legendaries are released, then probably a lot of legendaries too (assuming Mewtwo is included, anyway) :D What do you think? Who would you be placing at the top of gyms? I, for one, would love to put my maxed out Charizard on top of a L10!

Well if the tiebreaker is CP then the new Dragonite will be Dragonite and Tyranitar. All level 34 players will need as many of these and only these maxed out since they cannot be in a gym longer than the same level players with the same mons. They will have to be maxed out. And you won't have as much dust to spend on other mons since high end leveling is so expensive.

So level 26 guys can just give up on working their way up in high level gyms through wise investment and good mons?

I'm thinking that around here it would be vaporeon. The candy for vaporeon has been much easier to obtain than candy for pokemon like snorlax and chansey, and even rhydon or gyrados. Therefore, there would be a lot more high level vaporeons. Maybe some of the other eevolutions would also be thrown in.

its like youre saying that level 40 pokemons max win win at the gym? you just make it harder level si the most hardest one to reach lol inbalance not balance, cp is okay for now. maybe if niantic will break the cp so a current level for example i can level up my dragonite upto level 38 max even im level 20, no more cp required level max just make us free we can level it up then your idea would be great

That's a fair point! As it is now, a L40 player is essentially at the top of the gym anyway, unless they ran out of high CP pokemon then you have a chance if you're about 37/38/39 and have your highest CP mon available. I agree that your concern is a point that needs to be addressed and perhaps I'm oversimplifying in the OP :)

That would be good, but everybody bellow level 28 would have a big problem. Now if someone is level 28 he can have a 3000 tyranitar or at least something over 2500 and be on the middle of a gym for some time. If the gyms where by level every level 30 could catch a level 30 pidgey and throw it in front of the level 28 tyranitar that cost the trainer a ton of dust and candies to make. I thing that the placement by order, the first guy will ever be on top, would be better.

Interesting reply! What, though, would be the incentive then for trainers to go for higher levels?

I think that gym placement should not be by CP, or even by level, probably the most fair will be a combination of all stats, and take more into consideration the actual defense capabilities of a mon (combination of HP + Defense), that way we will see a lot more diversity and mon like Steelix, Cloyster, Umbreon, Omatar and a lot more will be seen on gyms.

Also adding some kind of filter that only let's you put one mon of each would be very nice I think.

I think a L10 gym should have more than 10 potential defenders (maybe 20), and you should face a randomized set of defenders. Or instead of random, an AI that tries to figure out how to defeat you with the defenders available.

This would encourage teams to put in defenders that "fill a niche" that none of the current defenders in the gym fill. For example, a gym with all Vaporeons could really use a Charizard to burn those grass types.

If a defender is beaten enough times, it should be returned to the sender, even if the gym isn't lost, to make room for a Pokemon that can defend it better.

It isn't right that the attacker always knows what is coming and can act accordingly, but the defender cannot.

Like in the shows though, attackers should still be able to "switch". But, only from the six you are attacking with. You have to try to guess who the defender will use against one, than switch to something that beats that. More challenging logic.

What I don't like the most about the current gym mechanics is that once gym reaches level 10 with 10 pokemons in it, it's finished.
No friendly trainer can make it better/grow/stronger.
What if after reaching level 10 with 10 pokemons, friendly trainer is allowed to continue to battle with gym defenders for a prize.
Win battles then give out pts or whatever that earns better position in the gym.
Gym leader will have the most of those pts.

2nd, I'm sick of looking at friendly lvl10 gyms that I don't have access to. WHY?
Friendly trainer should be allowed to battle for a position at that gym even though it is full.

This. Instead spoofers and multi account people only can while single account people are screwed.
