Is Gen 2 Pokémon unwhelming for anyone?

Blissey, Tyranitar, and Ampharos are not in this topic. All 3 of them are amazing we get it.

Donphan-Counter or Tackle/ Eq seems to be it's best moveset but it seems like an inferior Golem or Rhydon at best.

All 3 starter final evolutions seem like inferior versions of Charizard, Blastoise, and Venasaur.

Scizor and Steelix are ok? They're fun and the best steel Pokémon in the game currently, but nothing mind blowing.

Ursaring w/ it's quick move is mildly disappointing..

Kingdra has great moves but average stats.

The most impressive attackers off the top I've encountered so far are Piloswine, Espeon, and Lanturn. Anyone else feeling disappointed w/ Gen 2 attackers?

Yes, I think so. They're not strong enough. 90% of them are just a bunch of prestigers.

Gen 2 has stronger role pokemon. Gen 1 was dominated by water on both attack and defense, with some psychic. Gen 1 had snorlax, 2 has blissey. Gen 1 had dragonite, 2 has Tyranitar, so those balance.

In gen 2, you have lots of guys that have roles. Steel is a good defensive type and now viable. Scizor is a great double bug user. Donphan doesn't have the double weaknesses of Rhydon or Golem. Kingdra can fill roles. There are good pure grass attackers.

The one thing I really like with Gen 2 is the variation in moves. For instance, a snarl/wild charge arcanine (earlier Q&A) gives some surprise to attackers. Similarly solar beam on typhlosion.

I have never really played using a generalist attacker. I like the variety, so Gen 2 has been fun for me.

Lapras, Rhydon, Eggy, Gengar, Golem, and Arcanine were all really great to borderline elite attackers in Gen 1..

Gen 2 seems to produce filler like Pokémon. Yeah they're cool but nothing overly noteworthy.

Who are these new steel types that are viable for defense? I don't think my Steelix could hold a gym for 3 hours unless I could put him in a gym on the moon. Then some martians would make first contact just to laugh at my low CP placement and kick me anyway.

I'm having fun catching and evolving but I know what you are saying. Dragonite is better than Tyranitar for many more things but Blissey is considered better than Snorlax. I guess Ampharos is a stronger pure electric than Jolteon. I do really enjoy my Scizor. Outside of that yeah there just isn't the same level of Poke as Gen 1 it feels like. No real viable "second elevel guys or strong niche type stuff like Gen 1. Oh and I will never get a Piloswine here.

Feralligator appears to be considerably better than blastoise, and charizard and typhlosion seem to be about on a par... So I don't agree with your assessment of the starters.

I think Gen2 made the meta much more interesting, and it will get more interesting as people get more of the new stuff, and more old stuff with new movesets.

Venasaur is vastly superior to Magniuem, Charizard has better moves than Typholosion ( in my opinion, Ferraligator is better than Blastoise I'll give you that.

Waiting on legendairies ^^

Out of those... Only Blissey (sort of), Tyranitar, Kingdra and Scizor are actual competitive pokemon, the rest of gen 2 (and most of gen 1) are not. So complainig about things that were known even before PoGo lauched seems a little pointless.

I'm talking about main game competitive battles btw.

What are you talking about? Gen 1 had so many competitive Pokemon in the main series games. Gen 2 outside of Legendaries were always known as filler Gen alongside Gen 4. Gen 1 and 3 are the main gens where the best Pokemon and nostaligia are from? Maybe you should actually play the main series games before making pointless assessments?

extremely disappointed...was really looking forward to Feraligator in terms of sheer bulkiness and high hp but Lanturn has a much higher hp ...
there are hardly any high powered attackers in Gen2

I feel like gen 3 will be a lot more meta-defining imo since it's the only generation to get 2 pseudo-legendaries (Metagross and Salamence) and also has a lot more promising pokemon in general (Slaking, Gardevoir, and Milotic all look to be very strong).
