Efficiency in Gym Battles?

Hello. This is a relatively long post, so I apologize in advance. I have a few questions about what is the most efficient way to go about gym battling.

So if a Pokemon possesses a quick move with a higher DPS than its charge move, is it more efficient to only use the quick move?

Example: Vaporeon with moves Water Gun and Hydro Pump. Even if Hydro Pump is charged, would it be more efficient to just keep using Water Gun since it has a higher DPS?

And I'm also curious about the reverse. So if said Vaporeon had a higher DPS charge move than quick move, let's say Water Gun and Aqua Tail, does that mean it would be most efficient to use Aqua Tail whenever possible?

And lastly, I read the guide on combat and the section about dodging, and it makes sense. However, I couldn't tell how frequently it was indicating you should dodge. Should you try to dodge all of the opposing Pokemon's attacks, regardless of whether it is a quick or charge move? Or do you only dodge charge moves? Or, is it scenario based?

Sorry for the long question/post, but I hope that these things can be clarified so that I will be more efficient in gym battles. Thanks.

I'd say yes, if Quick move has higher DPS then you shouldn't use your charge move. If you care about you Pokémon's health because you're low on potions, you will maximize your efficiency by dodging all of the opponent's moves. If you have lots of potions, it's better to just tank through most of the enemy's moves and just use potions afterwards. If your charge move is higher dps than your quick move, just remember that you'll take damage while activating it.

It depends. It's not really explained here whether the charge moves are "front-loaded" or "back-loaded"--does the damage occur prior to a cooldown period or does it occur after a delay period? If the latter, then effective dps (not the dps as posted here, but what you as a human can perform, i.e., two fast moves of a certain speed before a dogge) is what is important, and I'd probably err on the side of fast moves and dodging.

If the former, though, then fast moves can possibly have increased dps if increasing coverage, and, if some of their cooldown will tick while your opponent switches in a new pokemon, then it may be smart to "rush deliver" damage at the opportune moment.

As well, if your pokemon is inevitably going down, a powerful one-off charge move is occasionally your best course of action regardless of the above.
