Dragonite is supposedly the best attacker in the game, but which matchups is he especially useful for:
With SW/HB? Worst moveset, I know, but this is what I got on my third Dragonite (currently around 2050 CP with no intention to power him up). With DT/OR or DT/Hurr? Will keep trying (so this question is probably more important)! In my area, Dratinis are quite easy to farm.I have most attackers that you would expect from a level 33 player: five WG/HP Vaporeons, three Conf/Solar Exeggutors, Cloyster/Jynx leading an anti-Dragonite army, Charizard/Arcanine, Jolteon/Magneton, Venusaur, Umbreon and my new Count/DP Machamp.
Lacking from my attacker lineup are Poliwrath (mine have RS/HP and am still trying for RS/DP), Lapras (mine has WG/IB so I use her for defence), Snorlax/Blissey (only one each and more suited for defence) and Alakazam/Gengar (crappy IVs/moves plus insufficient candy).
SW is a pain while prestiging and for the people who loves to attack Dragonites with fairies.
Outrage is easy to dodge, but it has a same power as Hurricane while being with 2 bars. Hurricane is also decent, but it is more USEFUL on attack.
This morning I evolved to my dratini, and compared it to one with OUTRAGE, the difference is abysmal, HURRICANE allows you to dodge many more blows than OUTRAGE.
The most important scenario - as part of a small but deadly squad of attackers into a high CP/Trainer level 10 gym. Now I don't even bring DT/Os to battles. They are all sent to defend gyms - their best role. B/SE, DB/DC and DT/HU are THE BEST combination of attacking set of mons to take down high level gyms with potion efficiency. Period. DT/O just doesn't cut it. Takes too much damage leaving not enough HP.
Even though OR is SE against other dragons and HU is neutral against other dragonites, it is not ideal to attack dragonites with OR because the defending Nite will punish the attacker during OR move duration. DT/HU is better than DT/OR when attacking other Dragonites because HU can be cast and still dodge every charge move given by dragonites. You can literally not get hit by defending dragonites when using DT/HU.
