Double Team Medallion, eventually?

The description of the Team Medallion says it can only be PURCHASED once per 365 days. So, when you buy it, is there a timer that shows you how much time until you buy another one?
And if the restriction is only on buying, it would it be, theoretically, possible to buy one today, hold it for a year, then buy a second one, right?

The way I saw it was the medallion was good for a year and could only change teams once a year.... but it’s Niantic and communicating even basic information isn’t exactly one of the things they do well
