Do you think that spoofing is ok when no one is negatively affected?

Here I mean stuff like spoofing to trade with one of your friends overseas, and not stuff like spoofing to a raid to battle or spoofing all 4 of your accounts to a gym where your Pokemon is stationed so the accounts don't need to dig too deep into their GRB reserve.

Hands up if you think YES, it is ok.

Hands up if you think NO, it is still bad.

Yeah, I think so...of course even more when you consider that there is virtually a 0% chance of you being caught because no one is there to report you.

My response to 'no one is negatively affected': It's hard to claim 'no one is negatively affected' for anything you do in this game really.

I.e. trading with one of your friends overseas- what if it's a competitive species or it becomes lucky so you can afford to max it out? Then when said friend/yourself then (legitimately) uses that pokemon to battle in a raid? Will skew damage balls, team contribution, etc.

This is probably not going to matter in the grand scheme of things, but you might just be robbing someone with that 1 damage ball that they would have got if it weren't for this spoofing trade.

Now to answer the original question though: Spoofing is a dodgy play, but so is multi accounting, multi devicing the same account, gotcha, playing in a bus, opening the game in a bad gps location to get egg kms etc... yet all of these ones seem to be accepted. In the case that the OP described, spoofing in that nature doesn't really seem that bad does it?

What is wrong with playing on a bus? That is much safer than driving.

Yes it is safer than driving, but it is against the spirit of the game in the sense that you will accumulate 'walking kms' and be able to access a vastly inflated amount of pokestops, pokemon etc. compared to a walking player.

There's no rule against this, but this is the same bracket as Wafu party bus raiding which is technically acceptable but was clearly not the spirit of the game

Feel free to ride the bus a whole day and tell me how many km you get.

Yet to try this as I have a job and a life during the weekends, but being based in Central London and Hong Kong where bus stops and traffic is common, the bus usually gets me 2k every ride at least, for a typical 20 -30 minute ride.

For obvious reasons the wafu party bus strategy does not accumulate much kms due to the nature of the driving.

The kms you get from buses are only part of the benefit, the bigger benefit is the pokestop and multiple spawns without physically moving

Imo Niantic has said its against the rules so I say its not okay. I would love to trade with friends overseas tho

It is not ok. I'll never forget the glory that was the first gym system. It was taken away from us because of spoofers.

This. And the overarching fact that Niantic has probably had to invest just as many resources into stopping cheating as it has into developing more features for the game. I would think we would have a game with many more features, gameplay options, and the roll outs would be faster if they didn’t have to account for spoofers. People who spoof are definitely those kids that had game sharks with a full dex of lvl 150 mon in Red and Blue version while we were all trading and battling with those wonky cables back in the day!

Good players aren’t looking to negatively effect other players doesn’t matter if they are spoofers or not .... Some of biggest scum bags I have ever played with ...people who actively go out try scum people would never ever dream of spoofing... spoofing is just a thing people are the problem.... on a side note just start spoofing already your obsession with it is unhealthy

It's breaking the rules and gaining an advantage, so it's not ok.

Spoofing is strictly against the rules because: cheating. I don't think there exists a reason where you'll suddenly get people to change their minds and say, "oh, well when you put it that way, I guess that's ok."

Even the reasoning that you would only want to spoof to trade with friends overseas and thus wouldn't negatively affect anyone, isn't foolproof logic. Say, for example, you were to spoof to trade with a friend and you trade them a Tropius. They power up/unlock that Tropius and use it to help win their local Tempest Cup tournament next month. Now everyone who lost that tournament was negatively impacted because you spoofed to do a trade that wouldn't have otherwise been possible.

It is absolutely OK. You have my blessing.
It's just a fckn game after all, you are collecting bits.
The game itself negatively affects most players based on their geographical location which makes their ToS void.

Morals are what we do when no one else is looking. Nothing in this game can cause someone physical pain or injury, but the rules and terms of service are clearly laid out. Act to make the world the way you want it to be.

Pokemon go is a game and therefore it's point is for people to have fun, if people have fun spoofing and their actions don't reduce anyone else's enjoyment out of the game then it is fine. I don't get this "niantic says it's cheating and so it's bad" argument, as at the end of the day spoofing very rarely negatively effects people's enjoyment of the game. And tbf if how someone else chooses to play the game inhibits your enjoyment then you have more problems than the spoofer

Wrong. Spoofers DO pose problems.
-Advantages in trading, regional pokemon are supposed to be hard to get. So now they have advantages in great league cup due to a wider roster, AND don't have to visit any of the real places.

-Walking, not having to walk and get tired is a huge advantage, hatching more eggs, and getting rarer pokemon whereas other people wouldn't be able to get them.

-Gyms, instead of battling gyms that are in their area, they opt for empty gyms wherever they spoof. HUGE advantage for coins.

-Battery, staying at home on your lazy ass, not having to recharge your battery, another advantage.

-Spoofing itself, wasting Niantic's time trying to make sure you AHs are banned is a resource they could be putting somewhere else, so it affects us ALL.

-Teleporting to rare/powerful pokemon, and thus accumulating rare candies and powering up strong pokemon to use where otherwise you'd be like the rest of the population would struggle to get them, allowing you to use them in gyms and PvP. Another unfair advantage.

Is this list big enough for ya? Stop cheating!
