Dewgong worth powering up?

I just evolved 98% Dewgong with Ice Shard/Blizzard at CP1403 (LV 26).

I am torn between leaving as it is and using as a prestiger, but CP is too high for most of the gyms.

Or powering it up to LV 30 when it would reach 1624 CP. Is it any good with relatively low CP? With good moveset and powered up it would also be a trophy.

Thank you for the input.

Although I think FB would be a better prestige move, IS is fine. That being said, 1403 is a decent CP for prestiging. Just think, 2x 1403 = 2806. A lot of dragonites are 2800+, so it is in the vicinity of the exact CP you really need.

Most prestigers' CP I use are between 1000 and 1500 since the meta is generally 2500-3000.

At 98 IV's, it's already a 'trophy'.
Unless you have an abundance of dust, why spend ~36K just to make it a bigger trophy, if you have no other use for it. You're better off spending that on a real Lapras than an imitation one.

It's not an imitation Lapras, it's more like a 1/2 sized Lapras which makes it perfect for prestiging.

Plus, I don't know about you, but I'm not exactly tripping over Lapras, to the point where I'm building an army at various CP ranges to prestige with.

Dewgong fills a very important need in the game. Don't sell him short, yo!

It depends on what other dragonite counters you have. If he is your only ice type with FB-IS/Bliz, then power away. 1624 would work for all but the highest dragonites.
If you have a Lapras/Cloister/Jinx with with a double ice move set, think in terms of CP coverage. Ideal prestiging range is 1.5 to 2 times the attacker's CP. Between all your ice types, you want to cover as much of the 1500-3500 range as possible so that you can always prestige a dragonite. As is, your Dewgong covers 2100-2800.

There are 1500 Dragonites by you? :P

But seriously, I haven't seen a Dragonite under ~ 2500 in months. Minimum I normally see is 2800.

That means the sweet spot for Dragonite, just to be safe, is about 1300-1600 (+/- 50 or so just in case you run out of items and need a backup)

They are rare, but I found a CP 1516 hanging onto the bottom of a gym last night :-). I keep a 1050 is/b dewgong for them, cloisters for the 2000-3200 stuff, and a couple Lapras for the real monsters.

Most Dragonites I see in gyms around my area are in the 2-2.5kCP range.

Better keep she at 1403 CP and wait for a Lapras or Cloyster to max out. You can kill 2500+ Dragonites already. I have one 93.3% FB/Blizz and i never powered it up, but my Cloyster is 2160CP FB/Blizz and my Lapras is 2617 IS/Blizz (defender).

CP too high at 1400?

1400 is perfect for prestiging. That 1300-1400 range is the sweet spot.

I'm not sure what gyms look like in your area but I'd love to come crush them and take them all over sometime :P

Dewgong's max CP is only 1894 at level 40. You are probably not ever going to want to put a maxed Dewgong in a gym.

Save it where it is for training. Ice Shard is not good for dodging against Dragon Breath, but still works well against the longer Steel Wing.

Nope, it's not good dodging DB but you'll still win easily dodging only specials with an IS Dewgong. Obviously FB is preferred, but never transfer any Ice mon w/ Blizzard

I would just leave him as is for prestiging, Ice Shard isn't nearly as good attacking as Frost Breath
