Cloister question

So I usually don't ask about Mons and powering up but I have no real use basis for Cloister so I am asking. I have a 96 IV with FB/B. On at 1643. I am level 31. Do I max him or no? I do have one offensive Lapras but Dragonites are fairly regular Mons in gyms around me, and I have a 1690 Lapras I use to prestige Dragonite. thanks for the input.

Absolutely. I would. Great IV's, best moveset. He'll get plenty of use considering Dragonite might be most common gym defender in the game. I powered up 2 of them just b/c.

He makes easy work of them, that's for sure...and it's not like when you need more help you can just go to the Lapras field and pick out another.

Not like he's a niche hero you'll barely use. That guy will see battle...and plenty of it!

Yeah, I agree with this guy. Cloyster is really useful. Not much more to add :)

...and I agree with this guy's agreeing with the other guy. Still not much to add, except for the fact that I've been trying to get a high IV Cloyster with that same moveset for a long time with no luck.

If you have a Lapras, with FB/IB or FB/B i would never spend stardust on Cloyster. He have a good ATK stat, but as said here, he is a glass cannon even with that huge defense stat. Dies quickly if not dodging everything (fast and charge moves).

Actually I'd have to disagree. My feeling is that he's reasonably tanky. Since gym AI is so dumb i sometimes do not pay attention to the fight itself and just watch the healthbars, ale thanks to Cloyster's absurd defense stat many attacks barely tickle him. I would max my FB/B myself, if not for the fact that there are actually very little dragonite's here in gyms.

Cloyster candies are much, much easier to get. On that basis, I have to disagree. It is worth having a good cloyster to use while working on your Lapras.

I would leave him at 1643 CP, he is great for prestiging. You can take out 3k Dragonites easily with that, too.

No, you can't! 2 agreed, 3 no way or show me a vid you doing it.

I've beaten 2700 dragonite with my 1380 Cloister, so I can believe taking down a 3k with a mid-1600. Simulator on another site confirms it. It's a little slow of a process and tight with HP, but doable.

cloyster is basically a poor man's lapras. lapras will generally last about 1.5 times longer than a cloyster of similar CP, but a cloyster will be cheaper on potions. I pumped my 98 cloyster with FB/B and its amazing, but I don't use it enough...although somehow its holding strong in a ten man gym at the bottom with ~2200 cp.

If it were 100% i'd pump it to the max no question, although being slightly short, it would likely make a very small difference in battle. If you want it for prestiging, I'd keep it where it is. If you want it to take down opponents gyms, then by no means pump it up. Although this could be done with lvl 27+ shellders you find with poor IVs and evolve.

Id recommend finding/evolving a higher level (25+) Cloister with 13-15 Sta IV and powering that up to 30 instead. I only say this cuz you have a Lapras already and this is just about convenience not necessity. General rule for me is do what saves the most dust in the long run and gets the job done when you can.

Probably if you get to a high enough level 35+, I think if you had enough Lapras hatches or were at the Japan event, then saving your Lapras for gyms and using Cloyster makes a lot of sense.

Just saw a near 2900 Lapras so saving Cloyster to take down Dragonite can work...I just prestiged a gym using Cloyster and works perfectly fine.

Of course, if you had that much Lapras candy, you probably have tons of spare Lapras to attack Dragonite with as well.
