Catches of the Day
So, after some hours hunting this afternoon, I was able to finally complete new entries in my pokedex:
Alakazam CP 1626 (Lv20 - 91%IV) - PsychoCut / Shadow Ball
Kabutops CP 1408 (Lv20 - 87%IV) - Mud Shot / Water Pulse
I also found this Vaporeon:
CP 2182 (Lv26 - 51%IV) - Water Gun / Aqua Tail
Kabutops has the 2nd worst moves for attacking. But I think I don't care, because even with the best moves, I would probably never use it.
It was nice to catch the Vaporeon! I had another 2 (2673CP and 1903CP), so this one is in the middle.
I have many eevees, but I'm waiting for Gen2 to evolve them. At least I would be able to get the 2 new evolutions.
I'm a little disappointed on the Shadow Ball, I wanted the Psychic... Do you think I should use candies to power this up, or try another one?

If you have better attackers don't waste any dust on any of it. Alakazam is cool, but I think his newness may have him a bit overrated as an attacker. I'll take a Snorlax with L/BS (or really almost any moveset) over my Alakazam. My Alakazam is powered up to 31.5 and I wish I stopped back at level 20. As cool as he is, I still have a dozen or so better attackers.
All in all, a rather nice day for you :)
As for whether or not you should power it up, I really can't say. I would probably wait unless you really need a strong Alakazam. But then again, I never power up my Pokemon so I'm not the best one to give advise on that ;)
I've also had a rather nice day, atleast if you count from midnight.
If so, I first hatched a Chansey, which is the only Pokemon I couldn't evolve to get. I've been waiting so long to finally hatch one. A few days ago I even cursed when I hatched a Snorlax just because I really wanted Chansey. I almost felt bad for being disappointed.
The Chansey only had 80%IV, but hey, atleast I got one :)
And speaking of Snorlax, I cought one in the wild today. CP 1567, not sure about IV. My fourth Snorlax, but I still don't have one with good IV, but their moves are good (Zen Headbutt/body slam & Lick/Hyperbeam).
Then I hatched a Doduo which means I can finally get a Dodrio. For some that might not sound exciting, but I have perhaps seen one Doduo in the wild, so they are really rare here.
Also, getting that means that I can soon have all first gen Pokemon. Only missing three Dratini candies (have one as my Buddy atm) and then I need 20 Kabuto candies).
Finally I hatched an Igglybuff a few hours ago. My 2nd baby Pokemon (got Pichu as well).
Also, I did of course catch a s*itload of Santachu.
I've caught atleast 60 so far. Getting a bit tired of them to be honest.
It's funny to see you struggling for Doduos, when I can see one Dodrio almost everyday at my working place. I usually ignore them. They are not easy to catch, like doduo...
Now I'm missing Muk, Porygon, Lapras and Machamp. For Muk I almost have the candies, but 2 low IV Grimers. For Machamp I'm missing 50 candies. The other 2, well, they are almost impossible to get. xD
I've been lucky with Lapras. Found two bad ones, then hatched one and found another three with higher CP. I think I actually caught/hatched three Lapras in a few days, which was really weird.
As for Muk, I had almost the same situation as you. I had the candies but quite bad Grimers. Finally I got one with good IV and CP.
I really struggled with Machamp. First of all I couldn't find a Machop, but as soon as I did I had it as my Buddy and walked like crazy. In the end I also got on in an egg which had good IV, so I could evolve it.
Porygon though.....damn that little thing seem rare. I was lucky to hatch on from an egg early on and then I found a bad one near my house, but that's it.
Also, I know it's funny with some Pokemon being rare for some and others see them all the time.
That's part of what makes the game fun I guess.
I've seen people online who rarely see Gastly and Drowzee, when I see them every day (the Halloween event was a nightmare with Gastlys everywhere). They on the other hand get Doduo and such, which I never see.
