The "big 20" explanation – episode 3 – Pinsir (part 1) – comparing its moves

Ursaring 1: https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/q-a/big-20-explanation-episode-1-ursaring-part-1-last-line-pokemon-above-2753-cp-level-40-blissey-0
Ursaring 2: https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/q-a/big-20-explanation-episode-2-ursaring-part-2-metal-claw-and-play-rough-really-useless-moves

Quick Moves List
Bug Bite – 6% EPU, 5 Power, 0.5 Cooldown, with STAB
Rock Smash – 10% EPU, 15 Power, 1.3 Cooldown
Fury Cutter – 6% EPU, 3 Power, 0.4 Cooldown (legacy, STAB)

Charge Moves List
Close Combat – 1 Bar, 100 Power, 2.3 Cooldown
Vice Grip – 3 Bars, 35 Power, 1.9 Cooldown
X-scissor – 3 Bars, 45 Power, 1.6 Cooldown, STAB
Submission – 2 Bars, 60 Power, 2.2 Cooldown (legacy)

Compares
Bug Bite vs. Fury Cutter (with STAB)
60 vs. 45
22 vs. 22.5
10 vs. 7.5
Bug Bite wins, but may go wrong if the attacker uses it incorrectly.

Close Combat vs. Submission (fighting, without STAB)
43.478 vs. 27.273
Close Combat wins, but the attacker needs to dodge to fulfill the energy bar to use Close Combat, since Pinsir is a glass cannon with a higher (still low compared to other Pokémon) base STA.

Having a moveset of a same type is convenient, both fighting and bug are good.
Vice Grip is almost inferior except in the Charizard matchup on defense. Hard to say, but it seems like a weaker version of Body Slam.

Part 2 is coming soon!

Bug Bite wins

Please explain the metrics you are using to compare quick moves. Hint: it is not trivial. Just to give numbers and say which move is better, is not convenient for me.

but may go wrong if the attacker uses it incorrectly.

Why is this expecially true for Bug Bite?

Close Combat vs. Submission (fighting, without STAB)
43.478 vs. 27.273
Close Combat wins,

Please explain the metrics you are using to compare charged moves. Hint: it is not trivial. Second Hint: Energy, Damage and Time are important. Just to give numbers and say which move is better, is not convenient for me.

Having a moveset of a same type is convenient, both fighting and bug are good.

No, as one has a 25% STAB bonus, the other has not.

Vice Grip is almost inferior except in the Charizard matchup on defense.

Great. I did not know this...... Sorry, i did not manage not to get sarcastic. I really tried hard - it did not work.

Part 2 is coming soon!

I am looking forward to it.... somehow.

The only correct piece of information you give is exactly same way found on Pinsir page on GP.

Charge formula explained:
Bars * (Power / Cooldown)

Quick formula explained:
First line: EPU * Power / Cooldown
Second line: (EPU + Power) / Cooldown
Third line: Power / Cooldown

Fighting is convenient against normal Pokémon without being a fighting itself, thus not taking super effective damage from Zen Headbutt, a psychic move.

These metrics are not usefull to compare anything.
Non STAB fighting is not better than STAB anything, so for example, a dragonite with stab-dragon is better in almost any setup.

IMO, the best way comparing quick moves on their own, is to take a good average charged move and calculate weaved damage with this move. I use avalance on this purpose.

IMO, the best way comparing charged moves on their own, is to take a good average quick move and calculate weaved damage with this move. I take one of the many 10 DPS / 10 EPS Moves.

IMO Stab has to be considered in weave-damage calculation, as it belongs to the pokemon itself, whereas SE does not count into this calculation, as it is not a property of the pokemon but of a specific matchup.
If you take SE into account too, you do not evaluate the pure moveset, you evaluate the moveset in one specific matchup.

Thank you OP for this post!

I have a double fighting move Pinsir - RS+Submission.

My first question is, if I power it up to level 40, can it take down a Level 40, 0%IV Blissey? :) you know where I am coming from on this one :)

My second question is, why in the world would I want to do that if I am level 40? Oh, it's because at level 40 I do not have:
- Tyranitar
- Dragonite
- Snorlax
- Gyarados
- Rhydon
- Vaporeon
- Heracross
and others. Therefore, I have to choose stuff like Ursaring, and now Pinsir, to tackle my problems.

Thirdly, your math/methodology is all off! Please educate yourself on eDPS, eHP, cycle damage, dodge mechanics, counter battle simulations, weave damage, time efficiency and potion efficiency.

Fourthly.... I don't know, is there any fourth point, LOL.

I didnt have a Dragonite or Rhydon until level 30 or 31, luckily I have caught around 20 snorlax, how you dont have a Vap or Gya is beyond me tho

Great, at least I won't be "OP" anymore in my next few posts.

I will be adding the DPS of some movesets in the part 2. Sorry for all of you guys.

Pinsir will end in the part 3, episode 5.

Question for OP:

As the complete list of the "big 20" is yet to be revealed (I know I'm requesting spoilers from future episodes now), if I have a mighty RS/CC Pinsir, is it the best fighting pokemon in the big 20? Or should I rather invest in a Pinsir with Vice Grip for taking down Charizards? I really enjoy Body Slam, so if Vice Grip is anything like it, it must be awesome.

Personally, I'd say FC/XS or BB/XS are the only viable movesets for Pinsir, but I'm open to other ideas.

PS: How many episodes will there be? Are we looking at roughly 50 episodes to cover the big 20?

I see. It's hard to contain all the questions that arose when I read part one about the great Pinsir, when I really wish I could get all three parts at once.

Hope they will come soon, because I'm looking forward to being enlightened! I have high hopes that Part 2 and 3 will clear up any uncertainty I have about Pinsir once and for all.
