Best Mewtwo Counter is...Gengar!?

Here are 3 reasons Gengar (with sc sb) is the best counter to Mewtwo:

Higher DPS against Mewtwo than Tyranitar. Mewtwo can be two manned with an army of level 39 gengars with SC sb https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/6thiv8/mewtwo_initial_analysis/ Gengar likely Requires less stardust investment to be a worthy Mewtwo Counter. Many of us have level 30 82iv plus gengars with shadow claw and armies of level 20 tyranitars. To be useful against Mewtwo, Gengar has a defensive breakpoint of level 32 if it has 15hp and 15 def. Gengar needs this breakpoint to survive 3 confusions from Mewtwo after which point gengar can get it's shadow ball off.To be useful against Mewtwo, tyranitars with perfect 15 atk with bite have a breakpoint of level 27.5. To power up your level 30 Gengar to level 32 you need 23k stardust. To power up your level 20 tyranitar to level 27.5 you need 53.5k stardust. Gengar costs less than half as much as tyranitar for stardust.
Many of us really struggle for stardust right now. I have the lowest amount I've had in months with barely more than 900k stardust. Save your stardust by choosing gengar and save your stardust for your soon to be Mewtwo!
*If you have a good Iv shadow claw gengar that is at least level 26.5 you can still save a few thousand on stardust! Gengar gives your attacking team diversity. Many of us know people who had maxed 12 gyrados and 6 rhydon before the gym rework. A lot of those players are still hurting from the change. Meanwhile players with diversified powered up teams (alakazams, Golems, espeons, exegutors, machamps etc..) did much better after the rework. The game is always changing and putting all your eggs in one basket (ie. Powering up 6 tyranitars for Mewtwo) is usually really risky and not giving you much security for the ever changing meta. Gengar may have a use in the future. He will continue being good against Lugia and will be good against celebi. He is great to use battling gyms against slowbro with water pulse (which is se against tyranitar and houndoom) and a good faat and potion efficient general sweeper option if a gym is weak, demotivated or doesn't have normal type mons.

Ok disclosure, I tried to be a bit controversial here. I don't think Gengar is the best Mewtwo Counter. I still personally prefer tyranitar. I am not suggesting powering up 6 gengars.

However, powering up 1 gengar to give your Mewtwo Counter team a bit more DPS may not be a bad idea. Gengar is a good choice regardless of mewtwos moveset. however, it is even more potent against a Mewtwo if it has psycocut, hyperbeam and/or focusblast (75 percent chance Mewtwo has at least one of these attacks that give Gengar even more of an upper hand).

Personally, I will power up my one 10-14-15 level 30 sc sb Gengar to level 32.5 ( I think I need the extra power up cuz I have 14 defence and not 15). Gengar will join my 3.5k BC tyranitar, 3k BC tyranitar, 2.9k bse tyranitar, 3.4k dragonite , and 2.8 BC gyrados as my attacking team into Mewtwo. I will replace dragonite once I get a csb Mewtwo!

Correction:
against Mewtwo, tyranitars with perfect 15 atk (and same with 14 atk) with bite have a breakpoint of level 27.5, Not 28.5.

Wait, why do we all have level 30 Gengars and level 20 Tyranitars?

Halloween and raids. I'm talking from the perspective of your average level 35 plus player.

Unfortunately my best Gengars are all level 20. I do have a 91% with Shadow Claw / Dark Pulse. I'm considering using a fast TM on it.

There is always somebody that will defend anything, along the way it'll make assumptions like we all have level 30 gengars that have that one ideal combo sc/shB.***Namely I remember a megathread proclaiming the grass event as the best event we've seen--on and on using some very thin assumptions---then saying solarbeam is a strong move!

Even if we had that moveset (I have 2 but I digress), Gengar will die before even shooting 1 charge move most of the time (4 confusion hits and it's done), even against FB mewtwo, Tyranitar is head and shoulders above gengar, no if, no buts.

Gengar is for Focus-blast Mewtwo:

1.4x, weak against psychic fast attack (confusion, psycho cut)
0.36x, extremely resistant to fighting charge attack (focus blast). Rhythm method works the best after once you dodge successfully.
You must dodge confusion in order to last long enough to fire a few shadow ball.
You can spam psycho-cut Mewtwo and only dodge charge.

If you are in a raid where you have the luxury of dodging, then you don't need the best counter, and for any "counter" that needs dodging, it's not a real counter. Gengar dies in 4 confusion hits (with damage to spare), if you are lucky, you are gonna shoot ONE SB, that's not even a glass canon, that's a waste of time and stardust.

trash post. You assume everyone has lvl 30 gengars with a legacy move lol

Yeah... good luck dying with only 4 confusion hits.

"I have the lowest amount I've had in months with barely more than 900k stardust"

I'll use more gengars against focus blast variants

I agree with you, I even want to use 2, second one manual switch right after a charge from mewtwo.
But I had to dust them from lvl 20 to use in soloing Alakazam, so not necessary chearper :), but indeed more diverse.
The once I have at lvl 29 or 30 are at most 70 IV, I used them right at tgat level but I needed quality reinfircements above lvl 30 (they are 33 and 34 right now).
I also TMed my highest Gya, a Dragon pukse one and got lucky with Crunch. But pokebattler has mixed results, sometimes b/hp is better. Lucky I have that too, like many others.
