About Pokécoins

I have something I wanted to ask to you guys regarding pokécoins. I am almost level 35 (100k xp away but with a large mass evolution I will do this weekend), since the beggining of the game back in July my town has almost been a valor area, so I did not get much coins from gyms, I spent money on the game to buy incubators during events (last time on halloween) and mon an bag space (50€ in total), but I won't spend anymore until we get something big, in my opinion they don't deserve more money from me just to make random events on holidays.

After all this months playing 15 days ago I went to my granparent's town, all the town was Mystic so I managed to put mons in 7 very high level gyms (8-9-10), since then I get 100 coins every day. When I got 1200 I bought a stack of incubators to clean my eggs and hope for 10k ( I am only looking for Dratini, Lapras or Snorlax), 30 eggs hatches later (I only used the 3 uses ones on 5k of course), I got zero 10km eggs, being 95% of the eggs the normal 5k stuff, nothing good or even high IV and potential to keep, evolve and power up.

So here is my question, if you are in similar situation what would yo do with the coins knowing that I won't spend any money for getting more and that I am only interested on 10k eggs pokémon? Keep buying incubators? Save them for future updates or events? For gen2 eggs? Buy pokémon space? (I have already maxed 1000 items bag space)

If you can go to you grandparents home (or really any other area where you can put your pokemon in gyms) I'd keep buying the incubators since you get new coins every day.
If not then it's your choice. But if you still need good snorlaxes, laprases and dratinis from 10km eggs I'd suggest you spend them now. Your chance of getting these will get lower and lower as more pokemon get released.

As of today the mons I had are still there, I can get 100 coins every day (70 for the town and I get 3 more gyms every day here on my town). I don't know how much it will last and there is no possibility to go there back until summer at least (it is more than 800km away their town).

And yes, I need the 3 big boys, Snorlax not that much, already have one maxed out, but I need dratini for the candies to power up my 2 Dragonites (at the moment I only can do that by walking) and still don't have a 2 ice move Lapras and I was really looking for it...

I'm in the same boat as you. I just need Lapras, Dratini and Smoochum so I keep buying more incubators but I haven't got any 10km eggs in weeks. All 5km eggs.

I generally just transfer the crappy 'mons and even transfer 'mons with less than 85% IVs if I have a number of them already.

I say keep buying incubators and keep trying for better IV 'mons out of 5km eggs and hope to get more 10km eggs.

I guess you could save up your coins for something in the future - maybe another even like Halloween but that is no guarantee. But it is an option if you want to stock up on coins.

I really wished there was a 10k increase chance event, it seemed they increased the chances of getting them during the Christmas/babies event, but since then nothing, it has been exactly a month here without seeing a 10k egg and I have hatched like 50 or 60 eggs.

I wish you luck, hope you get one of those soon, I will keep saving the coins and when I get 1200 more I will do another 8 incubator run hoping to get at least one 10k...

I think during the last event they increased only the chances for BABY-10km eggs. Other 10km eggs were as rare as always.

I like all eggs including 2K and 5K. The Pokemon coming from 10K eggs have been very disappointing.
Who needs another Magmar, Onix, or useless baby?

The smaller eggs can give you high IV Pokemon that are valuable for evolving.
Yes, I do get tired of Staryu and Golduck too but I prefer to hatch a Magicarp or Eevee than another Onix.

I generally agree. I wish they had taken Spearow out of 2km eggs instead of Pidgey and Rattata. At least Pidgeot and Ratticate have useful movests for training.

This.

The odds in the 10km eggs are so unbelievably slim that I've stopped even considering hatching anything useful from them since I just transfer for useless candy.

It happens that you do not get 10k eggs for a period of time and then you get a few in a row. Even when you do get 10k eggs no guarantee of course that it will be anything good. My strategy at the moment (level 34 and Pokedex complete) is to have 2 eggs on the go, so I buy some incubators (have been lucky enough to collect from 10 gyms for a long time now). Any 10 k eggs I get I save until I have a lot of them. So this weekend I hatched 7 of them all in one go. What came out: 5 Smoochums in a row then 1 Magby (only one of the eggs was still from the "baby" event). Luckily the last one was Chansey useful for the candy. Like you I was hoping for Dratini, Lapras or Snorlax. But if you check out this link:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/5orfk3/research_final_results_130000_eggs_rare_egg_drop/
it is obvious that the chances of hatching one of those 3 are pretty small. So I am saving my coins again and will save any 10k eggs until I have 6 or 7 again. If nothing else they are a good source of candy and stardust.

lol at that research, the % of getting one of them is almost non existant! I really hope it is only a matter of time to get some luck back, a month without seeing any 10k and hatching eggs every day makes me wonder if it is worth it...

One thing I can add is that I am not convinced that the content of eggs is really randomly distributed. Over the time I have played I have picked up most eggs near my village and on my regular bike ride to the grocery shop in town. My first few months of 10k eggs gave me an almost solid run of Scyther. I somehow got the idea in my head that I should get my eggs from different places. Just before the Halloween event I did a bike run along a river in a park in a nearby town. Picked up two 10k eggs, I remember from which stops. Bought incubators for the Halloween event and one of those eggs gave me my first Lapras. I continued during the Halloween event to do that run through town on a daily basis (also for quick collection of items) and was lucky enough to pick up 4 more 10k eggs, some of them from those same Pokestops. I hatched another 3 Lapras with masses of double Lapras candy during the Halloween event. Now I am not saying that I think that a Pokestop keeps giving out the same 10k eggs all the time. Then word would get out very quickly. But I have a feeling that it might be a bit like nests or a frequent spawn points. That would also explain why I got so many Scyther when I first started playing (nests did't move around so quickly in the beginning and I mostly played near my own village) and hardly any since then. Now that I have written this I am thinking again about my strategy of saving 10k eggs. I think I am going to hatch them immediately and if it is anything good try and get more eggs from the same Pokestop straight away. Up until recently everybody who dared to say on the Silph Road that eggs and their content were not randomly distributed was immediately corrected. But lately I have noticed that more people are reporting what I am describing.

I'm trying something similar - since I lucked into several 10K eggs in a short time, I am holding onto all with the goal of getting all 9 10K eggs! In the meantime I've used up all my bonus incubators (including ones that I bought at discount), but now I'm up to 4 10K's, so I don't have to buy as many incubators. I can keep 3-5 eggs going at all times, and my coin supply stays steady thanks to steady income from my defenders, lol! Of course if there's an Easter Egg event I will crack all those babies ASAP.

This is a very familiar situation to me. Since 2 weeks, I can finally also claim 100 coins a day. Personnaly, I have decided to not spend any coins/stardust, until another event starts.

I mean: why buying/using incubators now, while I can also use them at a double Candy/stardust event? What if a new event makes powering up Pokemon half as cheap?

Similar situation:
I get 9 or 10 gyms per day. One thing that I found through egg hatching is that; if I hatch a bunch of eggs at once, I get an increased chance that the next eggs I collect will have a lot of replcations. I.E., if I collect 8 eggs in an hour, I will get at least 3 that are the same mon, and at least 2 more that are the same. Since I found that, I have been doing it differently. I only buy 1 or 2 incubators at a time. For 2Km eggs, I only use my infifnite incubator. I only incubate one 5 km egg in a bought incubator at a time. I always use a bought incubator for a 10K egg.

With all of this, I never have more than 3 eggs in incubators, and sometimes only 2, at any given time. I hatch 2 to 5 eggs a day, depending on if I get some 2 KM eggs. I rarely get 2 or 3 hatches that are identical mons. And, I have slowly built up my coins to about 3500, which I will have available should another big event occur. (I add about 150 - 200 a week to the 'bank".)

All that being said, I have never seen a Porygon in the wild, nor have I hatched one. The only Mon missing from my Dex! :(

Depends on what your goal is. If you're a collector, then save your coins then use them on incubators or new items when gen 2 comes out. If you want the strongest of gen 1, use them on incubators now while the probability is still high.

Try getting more of your eggs near water. There is some speculation that biome influences the probability of what is in the egg. It has never been proven. What has been proven is that certain pokestops have a higher probably of dropping a 10k eggs. Good luck!

It's interesting, and thanks for the link! Although in their experiment there was statistical difference in the 2K vs 5K egg distribution, I'm not clear on what if anything that proves (also note that they excluded 10K eggs - not enough to analyze).
They didn't speculate, but I wonder if there is truth that a species is more likely to be in an egg if that pokestop is a nest... in that case, the observed difference could be explained just by that detail.
Near my home there is exactly 1 pokestop in view on Nearby, and before the last migration a charmander would be there many times (now it's a voltorb...) - so I tried to get as many eggs as possible from that stop and did in fact get a charmander, but can't be sure if that was RNG from a different stop or not. Still, since I'm trying to get a good dragonite I try to fill my egg basket at a lakeside park where I have (very rarely) seen dratini.

I've read somewhere that some Pokéstops are more likely to give you 10km eggs and some 'mons are more likely to be hatched. However, as far as I know, the chance to get 10km eggs is purely random, as well as the chance to hatch a specific 'mon. In my opinion it would be more convenient saving money for the next event and buy 2-3 incubators occasionally, just to free space for new eggs and increase the chance to get a 10km egg.

Trust me, as someone with likely the worst egg hatching luck in the game, you need to reset your thinking for eggs in order to stay sane.

Eggs are a source of Dust.....with a lottery ticket attached.

Eggs are not a source of Pokemon...with a bit of dust attached.

Going back through and looking at the 1,000 hatches I've recorded (out of my 2,000 total)...well....there aren't many useful Pokemon there. Truth be told I've had the 2km eggs help my game the most - between the starters, Magikarps, Geodudes, Pikachus, Jiggly/Clefairy, etc...and the ones that aren't useful (except Spearow/Zubat) are at least a good source of exp.

On a raw-numbers basis, I've gotten more help from 5km eggs as well, even though 95% is crap. For every Snorlax or Lapras I've hatched (hint: 5 total between the 2) I've gotten at least 10-15 high IV Pokemon that I use constantly - Growlithe/Exeggcute/Rhyhorn/Eevee/Shellder/Seel/etc.

I've gotten almost exclusively crap from the 10km eggs.

I almost get more excited for 2km eggs anymore

This seems to be more than just bad luck. Going on the link I gave above in my first post you should have had about 6 Snorlax and 4 or 5 Lapras by now so double the amount you have. This only strengthens me in what I wrote in my second post above. This egg business is not totally random. See also this post on the Silph Road:

I just bought once(1k coins) and I'll never buy anything more, niantic doesn't deserve any money I really regret it.
About your question: I have about 450 coins(only gyms) and I'm waiting for something really really big, eggs hatched are now coming with average IV(strong but not the best).

PS. sorry my bad english

I would wait as Easter is about 2.5 months away. I think most would agree Easter would be an "Egg" event and you want to have 9x 10km eggs ready I think...Since it takes probably 3 months to collect 9x 10km eggs, I'd just wait in case there is some special event to hatch them.

Yeah, they can all be Jynxes, but even with 1 Snorlax or getting double candy or what not for that one, that's a lot of saved walking. There's also no rush to hatch them IMO right now neither if you already have some defenders already.

I have 3x 10km saved up after my last 7 hatched and plan to just wait till some good event.

I also agree that some stops will drop certain egg mons or more 10km since I've hatched 3 Lapras so far out of 15x 10km eggs (not counting 2 babies during the event). Those RNG seem a bit high even to me.
