PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Spark is superior to Charge Beam on offense.
  • Wild Charge is Magnezone's best charge move, superior to Zap Cannon.
  • Flash Cannon doesn't pair well with Magnezone's Electric-type fast moves.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Charge Beam beats Spark on defense, with higher power and energy gain.
  • Wild Charge is Magnezone's only multi-bar charged move.
  • Flash Cannon can offer coverage against Ground-type attackers, but it may never be used.
  • Zap Cannon can deal massive damage if not dodged, but it's too slow for use on defense.

PVE Overview

Magnezone has the offensive oomph to earn a place in the PvE meta, but its strength is in its 12 resistances. As long as it picks the right matchups - and chances are it will - it will outlast the other top Electric attackers while outputting comparable DPS. That's great, especially if you don't want to put up with dodging, relobbying, or all that other nonsense.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Spark + Wild Charge and Flash Cannon

Spark performs better than Charge Beam in terms of damage and energy gains.

Wild Charge is the main highlight of Magnezone, being the cheapest charge move energy-wise while dealing out high damage with a very respectable 1.8 DPE (Damage Per Energy). Flash Cannon should be the secondary option to provide coverage, though it costs 15 more energy to use. Zap Cannon costs an insane 80 energy to use, which might be too risky considering Magnezone's unexciting bulk.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 3 / 5

Due to Magneton's legacy moves limiting its usability and potential, many people looked to its anticipated evolved form, Magnezone, as an alternative option. Unfortunately, Magnezone doesn't blow away its competition as some people hoped, primarily due to a slower moveset. The lack of a low cost charge move energy-wise limits Magnezone's ability to apply shield pressure, and since most of Magnezone's threat comes from its charge moves, Magnezone can be really set back depending on shielding situations. Overall a very considerable pick that easily abuses its typing advantages (which includes an absurd 12 resistances), but falls short in more neutral matchups like against Umbreon.

Ultra League: 3 / 5

Despite performing well against most Pokemon allowed in Ultra League, Magnezone returns mixed results against more popular meta picks. Positive wins against Lugia and Melmetal are somewhat overshadowed when considering losses against Dialga, and Cresselia. Due to its sluggish moveset that was also its main issue on Great League, Magnezone's performance decreases dramatically when shields are in play.

Master League: 2.5 / 5

Magnezone has a max CP of 3205, which falls a bit short compared to the numerous legendary Pokemon in Master League. Magnezone's wins are expected if there's obvious typing advantages, but a slow moveset still holds it back from really threatening its opponents. It's also no match for the ubiquitous Giratina that's one of the main highlights of Master League.
