Offensive Moves Explanation
  • Bite is clearly superior to Iron Tail. While they have similar DPS and energy gain, Bite has STAB and better type coverage. Iron Tail isn’t awful, but it’s much more suited for defense.

  • Stone Edge is on par with Crunch. A 1 bar charge move is easier to dodge with. A 3 bar charge move results in less instances of over-kill and having to hold onto your charge move. Both moves have great DPS and cover different targets.

  • Fire Blast is underwhelming in every aspect.

Defensive Moves Explanation
  • Iron Tail is clearly superior to Bite. Even without STAB, its defensive DPS and energy gain consistently outpace Bite, even in situations where Iron Tail deals not very effective damage.

  • Crunch is generally superior to Stone Edge. In general, multi bar charge moves serve better on defense since they have more opportunities to land a clean hit or even get used at all. That said, Stone Edge has a fast animation time and early damage window.

  • Fire Blast is underwhelming in every aspect.

Rating Explanation:

Tyranitar has a base stat total and pervasive STAB coverage comparable to Dragonite; however, where Dragonite has many resistances, Tyranitar has many weaknesses. This doesn’t hold Tyranitar back from being a top attacker or defender. While Dragonite is the game's premier generalist, Tyranitar is a broad specialist, chomping through targets weak to Dark and Rock-type moves.

As a defender, Iron Tail can put a serious dent in attackers, although Tyranitar's critical double weakness to Fighting (and more specifically, Machamp) prevent it from being more than merely decent in this role.

Raid Boss Counters
SupremeOverall best counter always. Almost always top in DPS and very high in survivability. The Pokemon you want for the job.
GoodThe next best if you don’t have Supreme Pokemon.
TankWhen you’re down to your 5-6th Pokemon and need to hold the line and not suck while doing it. Tanks always have more survivability than Supreme, but less DPS than Good.
GlassMore DPS than Good with significantly less survivability. Note: Less DPS than Supreme.
