With a shiny form and what appears to be an extremely powerful move on one of the most beloved Pokemon, this has the potential to be the busiest raid week to date. You should have less trouble finding groups than ever, but there may be times where you need to run it with just a few other trainers

The trio is so easy that it doesn’t warrant a guide. Teams of level 25 Tyranitar can do it. Any combination of mid to high-level Gengar, Giratina, TTar, Shadow Ball Mewtwo, Elite Bugs, Strong Ghosts, Fast Darks will get the job done.

However, the duo is an exciting challenge. It’s very difficult, requires maxed counters, and ideally, you know the moveset upfront to help better design your squad

Approach

Team composition

  • Limited options. Gengar & Giratina are the stars, with pinsir stepping up in rain

  • Much easier in fog, but that is less likely than getting a Shundo

  • Confusion is BRUTAL but still possible

  • Lobby animation skip trick is a must

  • See below for ideal composition by moveset

Dodging strategy

  • Some of these margins will be very tight. A dodge that allows you to fire an extra charge or live to avoid relobby is key, but too many dodges will slow you down

Moveset: Confusion & Flamethrower

  • Win %: ~60% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: Very little
  • Ideal Lineup: Lead 2 Gengar (Lick or SC) with 4 Giratina behind. Revive but run the 4 Giratina on the second team first
  • Weather impact: Only slightly more difficult in Clear. Pinsir slightly better than Gengar in Rain. Yanmega is filler quality in rain (1 Yanmega 5 Giratina). Confusion will be extremely difficult in wind.

Moveset: Psycho Cut & Flamethrower

  • Win %: ~55% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: Very little
  • Ideal Lineup: Lead 1 Gengar (Lick or SC) with 5 Giratina behind. Revive but run the 5 Giratina on the second team first
  • Weather impact: becomes very difficult in Clear. Pinsir about the same as Gengar in Rain

Moveset: Confusion & Focus Blast

  • Win %: ~98% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: 5 to 7 seconds
  • Ideal Lineup: Lead 4 Gengar (Lick or SC) with 2 Giratina behind. Revive and run the same team. Tina may want a dodge or two
  • Weather impact: Only mildly more difficult in Cloudy. Gengar much better than Pinsir in Rain. Confusion/Focus Blast should be avoided in Wind.

Moveset: Psycho Cut & Focus Blast

  • Win %: 100% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: 15 seconds+
  • Ideal Lineup: 6 Gengar. Or 12 Gengar with no revives if possible. Teams of maxed Giratina can do it as well without the need to renter, but with only a few seconds of margin
  • Weather impact: Only slightly harder in Cloudy, but still 100% win. Gengar much better than Pinsir in Rain, though Pinsir & Yanmega are filler

Moveset: Confusion & Ice Beam

  • Win %: ~10% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: None
  • Ideal Lineup: 12 to 18 maxed Gengar… time can be saved if a revive is avoided. Must dodge sporadically to avoid 36 total deaths and an extra relobby
  • Weather impact: Avoid in Wind or Snow.

Moveset: Psycho Cut & Ice Beam

  • Win %: ~50% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: Very Little
  • Ideal Lineup: 6 Gengar. Or 12 Gengar to avoid reviving once. Giratina is filler
  • Weather impact: if it is snowing go inside. Pinsir & Scizor are marginal filler in rain

Moveset: Confusion & Psychic

  • Win %: ~40% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: Almost none
  • Ideal Lineup: 6 Giratina or 1 Gengar + 5 Giratina. Dodge sporadically with Tina to avoid second relobby
  • Weather impact: Avoid in Wind. Pinsir is better than Gengar in Rain

Moveset: Psycho Cut & Psychic

  • Win %: ~70% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: Very Little
  • Ideal Lineup: 6 Giratina or 1 Gengar + 5 Giratina.
  • Weather impact: Avoid in Wind. In Rain consider 1 or 2 Pinsir with Tina. Scizor is very low end filler (but actually better than Gengar)

Moveset: Confusion & Thunderbolt

  • Win %: ~70% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: Very little
  • Ideal Lineup: 2 or 3 Gengar + 3 or 4 Giratina.
  • Weather impact: Difficult but beatable in Wind. Pivot to more Giratina & less Gengar. Pinsir is very similar to Gengar in Rain

Moveset: Psycho Cut & Thunderbolt

  • Win %: ~80% (assuming maxed copies of ideal lineup)
  • Margin: Very Little
  • Ideal Lineup: 2 or 3 Gengar + 3 or 4 Giratina.
  • Weather impact: In RainGengar remains a better option than Pinsir
