Overview

Ho-Oh’s brief return marks the conclusion of 2018’s Johto Festival, and with Larvitar Community Day having come and gone, we have a new supreme counter to the guardian of the skies. While previously Ho-Oh was a raid boss that required a small army of casual raiders to defeat (especially against dreaded Solar Beam sets), now it can be duo’d if the conditions are right!

For those who were unfortunate enough to miss Larvitar Community Day, the old guard of Golem and Omastar is still viable for 3-man attempts, with new additions in Alolan Golem and Regirock. With friendship, Kyogre and Raikou have also improved.

Approach

Team composition

  • Smack Down Tyranitar is all you need for a duo; try to be great friends

  • Golem, Alolan Golem, and Regirock are accessible options for the trio

Battling strategy

  • Re-entering is necessary; Solar Beam sets may need an extra re-entry

  • Tyranitar should only try to dodge Solar Beam if Ho-Oh has Steel Wing

Note: "Good" movesets are not necessarily viable at the level indicated.

  • Needs Smack Down to excel; some trainers may lack one
