Does the shaking the phone trick still work for easy distance? No matter how much distance I gain it doesn't track in game. So I'm asking did niantic fix it, or I'm simply doing something wrong?

The shaking phone trick never has worked and never will work, it's just used as clickbait to generate add revenue. Pokemon go takes your location every minute and works out distance from your location to where you were 1 minute ago, because of this the shaking phone does nothing and had always done nothing
Set up Adventure Sync and check your phone's health app to see if shaking is counted as steps.
Adventure Sync counts distance walked from your phone's health app while the Pokemon Go app is closed (maybe while Go is running in the background too). If your phone counts shaking as steps, then Adventure Sync will count those "steps" as distance the next time you open the game.
While Go is active, it uses Go's distance tracking system, so shaking your phone while Go is active will do absolutely nothing.
BEST METHOD TRUST ME!!!!!
First close all apps on your phone and put it in a sock. Make sure Adventure sync is enabled in Pokemon go. Then all you have to do is use the elasticity of the sock to shake the phone up and down and you can gain 5km in 10-15 minutes!!!! (make sure nobody walks in on u whilst doing this coz they may think you are doing something else loooooool)
