Overview

Typhlosion is a really unexciting raid boss. Candy is easily obtained, and raids will not have its powerful Community Day move (Blast Burn). That said, it is a challenging duo with a powerful weapon for its counters… Solar Beam.

This one is can be tough, with unboosted Solar Beam falling in the extremely difficult spectrum. Rampardos & Kyogre lead the way, and some other superstars hit viability with the appropriate weather.

Video guide: Any desire for this? Around for 7 days and very, very difficult. I don’t know that it is worth it.

Approach

Team composition

  • Rampardos/Kyogre are the best options. Rampardos provides speed, Kyogre brings the bulk

  • An ideal unboosted team leads with some Rampardos and has a couple Kyogre to anchor. A solar beam squad likely consists of 2 teams of maxed Rampardos & Kyogre for each player, and even then the win rate is low

  • Weather provides additional options, but unboosted Rampardos/Kyogre remains a top 4 choice regardless of weather

  • If you need to re-enter, have a second team ready. There is generally no time to max revive

Dodging strategy

  • Most Solar Beam dodges will trigger the death loop

  • Dodging Fire Blast & Overheat may help energy management. Avoid letting the boss overcharge you.

Note: "Good" movesets are not necessarily viable at the level indicated.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Counters viable at level 30 for Best Friends vs Non Solar Beam sets
Rampardos Rampardos
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Highest DPS option, great win rate even at level 30

  • Can defeat solar beam a small % of the time, but second team is needed. No time for max revives

Cons:

  • New & rare at time of publication

  • Fragile. Will need to re-enter vs most movesets at lower levels

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Bulkier option than Rampardos, “Only” need 4 to 5 Level 40 Kyogre per team

  • Better win rate vs Solarbeam; however a second team including maxed Kyogre is required

Cons:

  • Legendary status makes it difficult to obtain many high level versions
