Overview

The Regi trio have emerged from their sealed chamber, and they aim to leave our spirits crushed and potions depleted. All 3 legendary titans are bulky with no double weaknesses to exploit, so unprepared groups may be surprised when they fail to beat the clock. Regardless, small groups are the best way to maximize rewards against the Legendary Ice Titan. The biggest threat here has to be Regice's coverage moves, which have wide coverage and severely threaten a number of its major counters, so care should definitely be given when standing against this permafrost behemoth.

Team composition

  • The top Mega Evolutions are Mega Charizard Y and Mega Blaziken. Each has their own unique benefits for this raid.

  • The top general-counter is Shadow Metagross.

  • Clear, Cloudy, and Snowy weathers favor Fire, Fighting, and Steel Types respectively. Be prepared to change up your team based on the whims of nature.

    • In neutral weather, Fire Types will tend to rule, though the steely resolve of Shadow Metagross cannot be understated.

Battling strategy

  • Under normal circumstances, a 3-trainer run is the bare minimum needed for Registeel. A duo is possible given beneficial weather and Mega Boosts.

    • For these cases, a tried-and-true strategy is to bring in Mega Charizard Y or Mega Blaziken (it depends on Regice's moveset) as the lone member of your team while a partner does the same and revive/re-enter ASAP when inevitably KOed. This strategy is resource-intensive, but can provide huge DPS benefits.

  • Re-entering is necessary; standard lineups shouldn’t need >1 re-entry

  • Dodging is mostly unnecessary but may help. Just make sure you don't do it so often that you eat into your DPS.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Mega Evolution Counters
Mega Blaziken Mega Blaziken
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

One of the top Mega Evolutions in the game objectively speaking, Mega Blaziken was guaranteed to show up for this raid, and show up it does. As the top DPS counter for this raid, it's going to be the first pick of many trainers. And why shouldn't it be? It hits like a truck, it's got solid TDO, and it sports a resistance to Regice's deadly Ice Type movesets.

Well, our good friend Mega Blaziken has some competition, because it also has a few issues for this raid. Namely, it's weak to Earthquake and takes neutral damage from Focus Blast, both of which can severely hinder its TDO when compared to its one true bit of competition in this raid. When taken together, this means that Mega Blaziken is definitely one of the best counters to Registeel, but it also means that it's not the absolute dominant Mega Evolution counter on this list.

Also worth mentioning; running Counter/Blast Burn is superior to Fire Spin/Blast Burn, but the latter is still perfectly fine.

Mega Charizard Y Mega Charizard Y
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Reigning from on-high, Mega Charizard Y is the usurper to Mega Blaziken's throne. With an offensive presence similar to the master of all chickens, this flying dino of fire generally faces one main issue when faced with its competition; the fact that its Flying Type generally gets in the way. However, that is not the case this time. While Mega Charizard Y's Flying sub-type does mean that it loses its Ice Type resistance, it also grants it an outright resistance to Earthquake, while it also takes neutral damage from Focus Blast and Rock Smash. While this is a bit of a trade-off, it's a trade-off that's beneficial in about 2/3 of Mega Charizard Y's matchups, meaning it rivals Mega Blaziken for this raid, and may arguably be the better pick in reality.

Mega Charizard X Mega Charizard X
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Mega Charizard X is one of the great fan-favorite Mega Evolutions, and it has a presence in this raid... unfortunately, that presence takes the worst of Mega Blaziken and Mega Charizard Y and mixes them together with lower DPS. The real question here is "Y would I ever use X?".

ShadowHoundoom Shadow Houndoom
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Mega Houndoom makes for a decent budget Fire Type Mega Evolution for this raid, but its weaknesses to Earthquake and Fighting Type movesets will tend to really show.

Mega Aerodactyl Mega Aerodactyl
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

If the weather is Partly Cloudy, then Mega Aerodactyl is here to throw some rocks at everyone's favorite living iceberg. It's a bit lackluster outside of beneficial weather, but its resistance to Earthquake makes it a decent pick in its own right. Just note that Blizzard will flat-line this prehistoric menace!

Mega Lopunny Mega Lopunny
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Mega Blaziken is objectively better if you want a Fighting Type Mega Evolution, but Mega Lopunny can still act as a solid Fighting Type backup option. Just watch out for Fighting Type movesets, ironically!

Supreme Counters
ShadowMetagross Shadow Metagross
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Metagross bows only to Mega Blaziken in terms of DPS, and to absolutely no one that lacks a Mega Evolution. Its resistance to Ice Type moves is nice, and it only takes neutral damage from Fighting Type movesets, but it's got to watch out for Earthquake. That aside, this is a must-bring counter if you're lucky enough to have a decent one raised!

Terrakion Terrakion
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Remember when Terrakion wasn't a Fighting Type wrecking ball? Terrakion remembers, and it wants to make up for lost time.

Much like Mega Lopunny, this is a Fighting Type that's weak to Fighting Type moves, so keep vigilant  for this fight. Get around this small weakness, and you've got yourself a genuine winner of a counter, ready to reduce Regice to a pile of crushed ice.

Shadow Machamp Shadow Machamp
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While no longer the "champ", Machamp has the advantage of having no weaknesses among Regice's movesets, making it a solid universal counter with great DPS to back up its fists. It's a good universal pick!

ShadowMoltres Shadow Moltres
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Basically baby Mega Charizard Y, Shadow Moltres hits hard, has a great resistance set, and is worthy of a team slot regardless of Regice's moveset.

Reshiram Reshiram
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Reshiram has a great presence in this raid, hitting hard numbers and staying around for a fairly long time. It needs to watch out for Earthquake, but it's still a wonderful pick.

Good Counters
ShadowEntei Shadow Entei
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

A solid Fire Type counter, just watch out for Earthquake.

ShadowCharizard Shadow Charizard
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Basically a baby Shadow Moltres.

Shadow Hariyama Shadow Hariyama
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Basically a baby Shadow Machamp.

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Keldeo is actually a really potent counter for this raid, sporting a resistance to Ice Type moves and no weaknesses to speak of. It has a very solid general presence, and can slot into any team effectively.
