Your gen IV Check list
Im wondering what everyone else has for their personal gen IV prep list, mines:
4 Double dark Tyranitar (3/4)
2 Machamp (2/2)
3 Gardevoir (0/3) *waiting until kirlia raids end
4 Dragonite (1/4)
2 togetic (0/2)
>accumulate ~200 excess candy (157/200)
3 Rhydon (2/3)
5 Swinub/poliswine (5/5)
>2 for each remaining potentially offense relevant gen IV evolution
* legendaries were not up for consideration due to legendary status
Any additions/revisions/suggestions? This is just a personal check list, im just wondering what you guys have on your list for what to get in preparation for gen IV

You want us to look at our mons if we check your list?
I assume you ignored legendaries. I´m at:
Tyranitar (dark) 7/4 (2 max)
Machamp 7/2 (3 max)
Guardevoir 2/3
Dragonite 10/4 (3max)
Togetic 0/2
Rhydon 8/3 (1 max)
Piloswine 2/5
For me I don´t get the hype about Guardevoir since I never use her as an attacker. Gallade will be useless too...Togekiss we will have to see if it gets a fairy quick move. I have enough candy to fully evolve and power up one. Piloswine will be good one way or the other but I don´t think that 5 are needed (it will never be more important than great generalists like Dragonite or Tyranitar). I have two at lvl 35 87% 15a and I think that´s enough for the start. Fairy and Ice are tricky since they must be really good to outclass a maxed out Dragon and with Gen4 there will be even more Dragons coming. I never powred up an Articuno for that reason.
I know i've said this before, but it doesnt seem plausable for it to get a CD. Retooling other fairy moves from charge to fast moves wont happen as it would likely incite a lot of backlash and cant learn fairy wind, and mewtwo'd beat it as a psychic attacker (they wont make it better than mewtwo, given what they did to blast burn), a CD wouldn't really give it anything relevant other than getting more candy for its already existing movesets
If the upcoming Eevee CD is an indicator of anything, it's that pretty much any Mon could, theoretically, qualify for a CD. A Ralts CD is more uncertain now that Niantic broke the pattern we were seeing (starter, 10k non-nesting Mon, starter, 10k non-nesting Mon), but I wouldn't rule it out as a future possibility.
Also, not every CD has resulted in the featured Mon getting better moves (see: Pikachu and Ampharos). From what Niantic has revealed so far, it looks like Eevee will be the one getting the special move for it's CD, so that'll be another one to add to the list of not-so-special event exclusive moves.
Yes, but as said before, why save a pokemon like ralts for a community day that will be a novelty as opposed to using it right now.
For soemthing like beldum and bagon i will hold off on, given they are likely to get those events, and in their final form, arent much better that soemthing else of the type, but nothing comes close to gardevoir as a fairy type.
The eevee CD is likely just a prelude for gen IV, as it does get 2 evolutions, dragon pulse ampharos is likely a hint to keep mega's in mind, and pikachu was more or less a trial run and it is the mascot and a starter (eevee is also technically a starter, but it did still break the pattern)
No, wondering what you're guy's check list for gen IV is, and what improvements/changes you think mine could use
The 5 piloswine are for more or less ground use and ice use, I think 2 of each, and then one that can go to which I think I need more of at the present moment, I have no groudon and ice types I have are also lacking
I'n not holding my breath for a ralts CD. Gardevoir's use will be because its a fairy attacker, we dont know what togekiss will get, though it will likely be a lot better, but never can have too many fairy type attackers for a gen full of dragons and fairy weak pokemon, plus it does well against agaisnt psychic types because of shadow ball
Galade, I agree, is useless, though it could be a good defender, threatening both machamp and tyranitar, something no pokemon's been able to do prior
Fairy is good against Dragon, Dark and Fighting right? Against Dragons I use Dragonite, against Dark I use Machamp and against Fighting I use Mewtu, so no need really for a Fairy like Guardevoir.
Regarding your list preparing for gen 4 I think every player should aim to have 2 high-level/high IV Dragonites which you can use in every team of 6. Then two Machamp and Tyranitar would be great and a Kyogre. That´s what I consider as must-haves.
For preparation-purposes Rhydon is probably a safe bet and for me I think Mamoswine and Tangrowth will be the mons standing out. One of the electrics will probably be good, I think it will be Magnezone. Togekiss and Yanmega will be interesting (I don´t have a good Yanma).
Agaisnt dragons, dragons arent always the most reliable thing, given they are weak to themselves, against non-dragon sets, dragonite will do well, but agaisnt dragon type sets, gardevoir will be better because it doubly resists dragon
The only reason that fairy ins t viable agaisnt dark types is gardevoir doesn thave a fairy fast move, when togekiss is released and if given fairy wind, it will likely become a much better counter to absol, the reason it wont be fore tyranitar is its double weakness to fighting and agaisnt houndoom, fire resists fairy
NEver said it would get one, thats what holds it back, i was talking about togekiss with a fairy fast move, which will give it higher DPS if given, in comparison to gardevoir and have use against the high powered dragons when they have their dragon movesets, keep in mind, the gen VI dragons arent like the lati's or rayqyaza, they pack bulk and offense
Keeping in mind, dragonite does have bulk, it can take super effective hits well, Rayquaza cant take those kinds of hits well
"the gen VI dragons arent like the lati's or rayqyaza, they pack bulk and offense"
After nerf, Palkia has 280 base attack and 225 base defense, Dialga has 275 base attack and 220 base defense. Latios has 268 base attack and 228 base defense. By pure stats, the gen 4 dragons are actually extremely comparable to Latios as raid bosses, they just have a bit more attack. Whether they hit harder by any significant amount will depend on their movesets.
By Gen 4, I want to have:
Maxed one of each legendary + maxed shiny variant
6 maxed Smack Down Tyranitars (4/6)
4 maxed Bite/Crunch Tyranitars (3/4)
6 maxed Counter/Dynamic Punch Machamps (2/6)
1 maxed Iron Tail/Crunch Tyranitar (0/1)
1 maxed Confusion/Dazzling Gleam Gardevoir (1/1)
1 maxed Confusion/Shadow Ball Gardevoir (1/1)
Maxed 1 of each starter (2/9)
1 maxed Bullet Punch/Flash Cannon Metagross (1/1)
1 maxed Zen Headbutt/Psychic Metagross (0/1)
1 maxed Snorlax any moveset (0/1)
1 maxed Zen Headbutt/Dazzling Gleam Blissey (1/1)
1 maxed Waterfall/Hydro Pump Gyarados (1/1)
1 maxed Dragon Tail/Outrage Gyarados (0/1)
1 maxed Dragon Tail/Dragon Claw Dragonite (Don't have yet)
1 maxed Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball Gengar (Don't have yet)
Maxed one of each Eeveelution (1/X)
1 maxed Iron Tail/Heavy Slam Aggron (0/1)
1 maxed Dragon Tail/Stone Edge Aggron (0/1)
3 maxed Rhydons (0/3)
1 maxed Porygon2 (0/1)
1-3 maxed Togetic (0/3)
---
Candy:
Swinub: 4 x 400
Porygon-Z: 50 + 248
Tangrowth: 50 + 248
Roselia: (50 + 248) x 2
Rhydon: (400 + 248) x 3 [Done]
Personally I'm going for at least 5 Rhydon, but Rhyhorn pops up in my area almost as often as Pidgey. Rhyperior looks like it will be pretty good. Other than that, I've got a couple of each of the evolutions that should come up. What I'm focusing on now is mostly just getting lucky versions of Pokemon that are good and some that will probably have a community day in the future.
I pinup all this things who get a new Evolution (not Murkrow). Most of them have the potential to be great.
However, for most I lack on good candidates.
Yanma I'm sitting on just 20 candies and Tangela will also be a problem if the evolution costs over 50.
However, Mamoswine and Ryhiperior seem to be save bets.
Rhydon I have 100% and 2x96% at Lvl 30
Swinub 100%, 93% and some shitty ones with high level
Rare Candy: 319/500
Since Zapdos day I was sloppy with my raid passes.
For the other ones I dont plan to do anything. I'm pretty confident in my team as it is. Punctual enforcements can be done as soon as the new raid bosses are here (and I have some dust again).
My checklist is pretty simple, I'd like to have at least 1k candy for every crossgen evo with offensive potential. The ones I'm missing are:
Tangela 499/1000
Magmar 773/1000
Porygon 752/1000
Togepi 416/1000
Yanma 405/1000
Sneasel 755/1000
Electabuzz 827/1000
I have at least 1 or 2 good evolvables for almost everything and 6 for some (Swinub leads the pack with maxed 100% and 96% Pilos and 7 other 93%+ Swinubs and Pilos), but would like more for some species. But it's not like I can particularly work towards that, they'll come off of catches, trades or hatches if they come.
So for prep I'm just walking Togepi until gen 4 releases, at which point I'll re-evaluate.
