Will triple Mewtwo teams dominate in Master League PVP?

Mewtwo has access to various solid 2-bar charged moves. In theory, a triple Mewtwo team in PVP would have massive coverage. So basically, we would end up with teams of Mewtwos battling one another. Do you all think Niantic would limit the use of multiple pokemons of the same species?

I imagine that we will be limited to one of each species...for this exact type of reason.

I think most definitely you will only be allowed one of each species. I would go further & limit it to one legendary aswell but not heard anything on that. I think doing that would make for more interesting battles & a wider variation of mons used, especially in Master League.

Even if you were allowed to use more than one of the same species, no, triple Mewtwo would not dominate. Ttar will likely eat Mewtwos for breakfast thanks to shields and Focus Blast being slow to charge. The next best option would be to hit for neutral damage with Thunderbolt and Ttar will absolutely dominate that fight as well.

what about triple Rayquaza??

Not really wrong. Rayquaza has huge DPS, but its bulk is on par with that of salamence. this doesnt come up normally as rayquaza's massive dps allows it to out/nearly out TDP a lot of pokemon that have better bulk than it, but that type of stat combination likely is not going to do well for PvP when theres a lot of things that while not possessing its shear DPS, have good DPS and sizably better bulk to outlast rayquaza.

I was thinking about the all dragon team in master because the ice and fairy counters aren’t very strong, but then I remembered that Mamoswine is coming. Metagross also poses some issues.

Will probably be a species limit, but either way, no matter how strong I doubt it'll be a good idea to go into a battle with 3 pokemon suffering from the same weaknesses

I will loose interest if niantic allow that.
Not because mewtwo gona be op, but the trainer battle gonna be boring to me.

You can always make your own rules. I, for example, have no interest in battling against 3 M2 or blissey, so I will make sure my opponent agree to using unique Pokemon before starting the fight.

True, i will do that to my friend in my group.
But i also want to battle friends from another country, that is why i start give and take gift from my overseas pogo friend again, to be ultra friend.
It will be better if no duplicate in squad is what niantic include in a game rules for trainer battle

This is why we have species clause in most if not all competitive formats.

Blissey / Snorlax / Lickitung will wreck everything!

Unlikely.

Metagross wrecks Blissey sideways. Will have trouble with Lick/Earthquake Snorlax (Lickilikcy is likely not powerful enough, though that depends on the actual PvP mechanics). Admitelly, Snorlax seems to have very good coverage, much better than Blissey.

And both Machamp and Focus Blast Mewtwo will eat Snorlax for breakfast. With a plot twist, Ursaring should do as well.

Also, generic heavyweights like maxed out Kyogre, Groudon, dragons, Lugia should best them all (except dragons against Blissey). Even Ho-Oh has higher neutral TDO than Snorlax, with the benefit of resisting both Heavy Slam and Earthquake, so only Hyper Beam stands a chance.

Mewtwo has two different fast moves. Both are Psychic and super ineffective against Dark opponents. Of its charge moves, only Focus Blast is especially effective against Dark, but it is a one-bar-move, which is probably bad for PvP.

Teams of Dark will be to Mewtwos as little kids are to candy.

We shall see. Two best Dark attackers (Tyranitar and Weavile) have double weakness to Focus Blast, which sounds like 1 hit KO. Houndoom and Absol are a bit too weak.

Psycho Cut / Shadow Ball + Focus Blast Mewtwo might be a very good generalist with a very few cases where it can't really fight back - e.g. against Bite/Crunch Gyarados.

You're forgetting about the shields that block charge moves, FB's a 1 bar while crunch is a spam-able 3 bar. It can chomp through both mewtwo's shields likely before mewtwo can get a single focus blast off.

It has already been determined that charging works differently in PvP, so all we can do is to speculate at this stage. Looks like bars don't matter at all.

But we also already know that one bars charge up slower than 2 and 3 bars.

Doubtful because species clause and 2, it isnt like mewtwo is infallible, if this were a possible strategy, people would run its counter strategy.

The PvP meta wont be a stagnant thing like raids or gyms, it will likely be an ever evolving and changing thing.

Mewtwo has great stats, but not great moves. Moltres has great moves, but only adequate stats. Many other legendaries fall between these two extremes. Not sure how it all will play out, but it should be fun to watch.

>Mewtwo has bad moves
lol whut? Confusion lays the hurt more than most fast moves and Psycho Cut is among the top 5 for energy gain. Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Thunderbolt, and Ice Beam are all among the top 2 or 3 charge moves of their type with Shadow Ball dominating all other ghost charge moves. I'll give you that the other three pale in comparison, but Mewtwo has the attack to make Psychic work in SE cases and Flamethrower could be something of a surprise element. In the raid/gym scene Hyper Beam sucks eggs but PvP could give it a weird niche as a heavy hitting neutral attack.

I really hope not and have some faith that Niantic tested this because it seems like a very obvious strategy. They already nerfed Blissey and chansey in preparation for PVP, so I doubt they didn’t account for the triple Mewtwo, which I think would be dominant.
