Will Blastoise be an OK defender?

Looking at Hydro Cannon, it seems to be a really fast move even faster than Stone Edge. It also has 2 bars, will this make Blastoise's defense better? or are we better off using Milotic?

Well, Milotic's a defender whose ability is based on moveset, once thats figured out, it falls like a house of cards and its sets tend to be nonstab, but blastoise may be better, it has good defense so I can take some hits, and with the rock and ground types players tent to use in gyms, those will get hit hard.

It could be good, but like all defenders, it would require some gym partner synergylike being along side pokemon weak to ground/rock/fire

Blastoise will not be a good defender not by a long shot compared to milotic. The only reason milotic is put up as a defender is to make the attacker switch from a army of machamps to something like a raikou therefore wasting more time. To the OP your better off with milotic.

Machamp still does very well against Milotic because none of the attacks are SE to Machamp nor does Milotic resist Machamp moves.

But out of those two, yes. Milotic is better, by virtue of stats and the quick move (bite and water gun are awful on blastoise).

Eh. Regardless of Milotic's moveset, Machamp does fine against it and Raikou is optimal against it. I haven't really found myself caring about the moveset at all in practice.

I was just looking at the stats and man they suck... Even if they had 90 attack, it's still be just "pretty good".

Wish Niantic would budge around some of the stats, attack algorithms, and introduce some of extra battle tactics, etc..
