Who is your go to Pokémon for clearing gyms?

If the gym wasn’t full of Snorlax, Blissey, Chansey, do you have a go to Pokémon for general clearing?

I used to use Dragonite, then Rayquaza, and then Mewtwo. But I find Latios with DB and DC to clear out gyms very easily. So he is my go to generalist for sweeping gyms. Very very fast moves and strong attack. His defense isn’t that bad either.

What about you?

Now starting to use my maxed two bar attackers more to build up victories instead of using the ideal specialist. Mewtwo, Raikou, Dragonite, Gengar...plus they are not relevant for raiding this week, so if I forget to rehealth them not a big deal.

When gyms aren't stacked with normal-type tanks, my go-to is usually Mewtwo since confusion hits like a truck, and shadow ball is resisted by very few. My other go-to generalists are Rayquaza and Latios.

It’s been Partly Cloudy for like a week, so I’ve been enjoying all rock Tyranitar.

Lugia as of late. I enjoy it’s performance. Tanky, great set for dodging and it isn’t really in danger of timing out against Blissey. Typing is also good, narrowly resisted

I like Mew (Snarl + Rock Slide) for general clearing, it works pretty fast against quite a lot of types, it last long and you rarely have to switch.
But when in a hurry I just go with the game's suggestion which is often a Kyogre or Tyranitar.

I chose the same set for mine. On paper, Snarl sits slightly below Shadow Claw, but it doesn't have the Normal weakness while retaining effectiveness against Psychic types so Mew can leverage its resistance. I do wish, however, that the Snarl animation wasn't so hectic.

I also find Latios great for clearing demotivated/disposable defenders, when boosted ttar is also good.

My standard preset gym buster team has a focus blast Mewtwo that is my Blissey killer then after that I have a DB DC Latios as my general sweeper followed by a Kyogre, Entei, Raikou and B/S Tyranitar which I will use as counters when there are high motivation targets.

I usually still use Machamp due to the order of my Battle Party, but if I fight something strong, that resists his attacks (Gyarados, Dragonite, Gardevoir, etc) I quickly switch to Mewtwo or Rayquaza (usually vs dragonite/salamence)

The 6th slot is only for collecting battles won on a specific mon - just in case (I pick only Pokemon that could/should get a normal, mega or primal evolution/form in future for this)

What's the potential future significance of number of battles won?

I could imagine that mega evolutions get tied to battles won (and/or maybe buddy distance) to nerf their accessibility - the reason for this theory/possibility is, that in the anime (I don't know about the main series games) mega evolutions are only really possible, if the boundary between Pokemon and Trainer is strong enough

Very unlikely but i'm with you that distance walked and battles won should grant tour favorites some kind of boost

I also think that it's unlikely, but I like the idea and can affort to use a single slot in my battle party for the small possibility of this to happen without having any disadvantage - another idea related to this is that battles won count as training for a Pokemon and could be part of a way to improve it's IV's

If no golden berry involved, and no high CP high motivation Blissey in gym, i just use wild catch pokemon at CP1000+, tier 3 or 4 raid boss from raid that dont have a good iv, or pokemon from mass evolve (at the time when i still do it, not a good iv legendaries when there is a double candy event ( i save them now for trading with my friend)
If i run out of those, i ussually just use the recomended party.

A gym that is not stacked with Normal-type tanks is very hard to find here, but in that case, I would use Dragonite (which remains the best non-legendary generalist, matched only by Tyranitar) or Gyarados (simply because I love it).

Autoselect is a damn fine Pokemon for me in that improbable scenario.

I have 6 maxed dragons, 24 tyranitar above lvl 35, a trio of maxed kyogre, a brigade of Rhydon, a smaller brigade of Golem, and a random assortment of maxed Mewtwo/Groudon/Ho-oh/Lugia/Moltres/Raikou/Espeon....

so whatever the game wants me to use, I'll use it

3 Machamps, 1 Dragonite, 1 Raikou, 1 Kyogre, 1 Zapdos. Depending on gym composition, 1 pokemon will be swapped out.

Haha, those first six are what I have haha, sometimes the Kyogre gets switched for Entei though.

Don't really need that much variety due to how bad the gym and battle system is.

I love DB DC Latios. Other than that, I use Dragonite, Tyranitar, Raikou and Kyogre.

I use my Mew with Dragon Tail + Psyshock. It's fun to use and not resisted by many defenders. More fun since they fixed the animations to prioritise charge moves.

The trident: Espeon (Perfect Confusion), Gengar (Shadow), Tyranitar (Darkness).
