What happens if all your counters faint....

.... and you can't rejoin before the legendary raid boss is defeated? Do you still get a chance to catch him?

I know it's a noob question, but I've only done 3 legendary raids and need to know whether I should swap out before my last attacker might faint. A new friend (who appreciates the game as much as I do; she's lvl 40) and I want to raid in the city later today. As a fellow rural player, she has never done a tier 5 raid and really wants a legendary.

Thanks for any replies!

Yes, you will still be able to catch the raid boss.

After your monsters have fainted, there will be another auto select , just continue and you will be back in the arena.

So there's really no reason for anyone to use Blissey ;)

There was.. Before, when all your counters fainted and you rejoined, the damage count did reset, so you would loose your damage bonus. Now that bug is fixed :)

I used to have to use a Blissey as my 6th attacker for every legendary raid, because my game would crash every single time I got to the "All your pokemon have fainted" screen. As a result, I had 3 or 4 legendary raids and a Tyranitar where I got kicked out of the fight and cheated out of the rewards, so for a while I had to use a team that would survive the entire battle.

However, it seems like they've made some improvements since then, because now it's actually possible for me to rejoin a fight without crashing and being expelled from the raid. Still makes me nervous every time my 6th attacker faints, though.

Short answer: Yes, but if there is a lot of time left and you are going to lose your sixth attacker it is faster to hit the run button to return to the pokemon select screen than to wait for the "All your pokemon fainted message."

...
Longer Answer: If you are on the pokemon select screen when the fight ends, there can be a few more seconds before you get the "You Win" message. In the past, there have been problems if you tried to rejoin a raid fight during this small window of time right as the boss was being defeated. I don't know if those problems have been fixed or not. If the boss HP was an incredibly low sliver when you got kicked to the pokemon select screen and there were still people fighting, then just wait. That is the only reason now to worry about jumping back into a raid fight.

Your personal damage bonus is no longer reset when rejoining a fight, so that part is no longer a concern.

This is exactly what happened during my Groudon raid! I had just tried to rejoin when "You win" appeared. But what could have gone wrong? Is there anything you can do to miss out? I'm not really worried about personal damage bonus, don't seem to get it anyway (I had only 9 balls but caught him with the 6th).

If you got to the catch screen, then that is not the problem that used to happen. Previously, if you tried to rejoin a raid fight as it was ending, you would get stuck alone on the battle screen with the boss not attacking and unable to press any buttons. You'd have to restart the app, and then trying to re-enter the gym for the next 10(?) minutes would either crash the app or get stuck thinking you had already completed the raid and not give you the rewards (including not going to catch screen). After the 10(?) minute window, you could refight the raid if there was enough time left on the clock and enough people waiting for you that hadn't already finished. I've never experienced this problem myself and I don't know whether or not it has been fixed. I haven't seen anyone complaining about it recently though. The simple fix was to wait on the rejoin screen if the boss's HP was really close to going down and there were enough other players still in the fight to finish it.

Yes, you can catch the boss as long as you don't leave the raid session (by this , I mean you don't quit the lobby while you are at the rejoin screen). A general piece of advice, avoid raiding when the timer almost expires. If anything bad (e.g. App crash) happens and the timer already expires, you will not be able to recover.

Thanks for all the input/advice, I appreciate it. Just to make sure I understood correctly:

- If you participated in the battle, you will get credit/be able to catch the mon, even if all your counters fainted.... whether or not you were able to rejoin before the boss was defeated.

- It is risky to attempt to rejoin if the boss has very little health left because the app may crash and you may not be able to re-enter the lobby/catch the mon. Therefore, it is best to wait it out and let the other players finish the job.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my current understanding.

P.S. My friend and I arrived too late for the one legendary battle we could have done today. (Another time!)
