Tyranitar power up and TM question

I caught a weather boosted Tyranitar at 2592CP with an 88.9% IV. It has 15 attack, 10 defense, and 15 stamina and a moveset of iron tail and fire blast. Is it work spending dust, candy, and tms on this Pokemon? Thanks in advance.

Tyranitar isn’t essential atm. Maybe for Latias and Latios, but if you’re pressed for TMs then I’d wait for a better opportunity.

Awesome catch, too

He would be a decent Jynx counter as is with a couple power ups.
Deoxys-Attack looks like it might be the first soloable Legendary with a good team of B/C Ttars so you may wanna TM later.
How awesome would it be to not have to coordinate or wait on a group to get those Tier 5 rewards

That would be amazing! Imagine going from one raid to another just racking up rare candies and TMs without having to hope that enough people show up to beat the boss.

I suspect Niantic will make it the next EX raid boss and dash all my hopes of the scenario you just described

The two boosted I've caught were only 2565 and 2558, I bet I TM'd them and I already had 7 Tyranitars from 3670 to 3050. I guess I just won't stand for bad moves.

Kind of disagree with Fallacy. I mean, Ttar isn't that useless if you're holding an EX pass. Also good for the psychic dragons.

You could QTM him to have bite, and then use him against psychic Metagross, weak to dark and fire, and Ttar resists psychic really well. But watch out for steel moves.

And while it's nice to get weather buffed raid mon to save dust, I'm more concerned about that with legendaries, to save on the rare candy expense. One can power up (to level 30) three weather buffed mon or two non buffed mon - would you like to have an additional 50% of powered up legendaries? I sure would.

I didn’t mean to render it useless! It’s just not as important to lineups as it once was imo. EX raids are normally attended by sufficient amounts of players to beat it with relative ease. True, it counters Metagross, but so does something like Arcanine (which resists steel moves).

The fact that OP asks if it is worth while tells me he/she is in not in need of a Dark-type attacker.

I made it my mission for the past 11 months to get 6 Bite/Crunch Tyranitars at level 35 and just finally accomplished that this past weekend. He is great against Mewtwo, Latias and Latios and will be the best dark attacker for at least the next several generations, so I consider him very important and a wild caught 89% with 15 attack is an excellent use of stardust and TMs.

In most cases, I am against powering up Pokemon that are designed as specific raid counters when they're not a very high level or 100% IV.

That being said, that's a super good TTar (The most optimal iteration of an 89% IV), and TTar makes a good generalist, gym sweeper, and is a top-tier Dark-Type specialist. Psychic-types and Ghost-types are among the most prevalent, being among the most common type for legendaries. Should you get an EX-pass, it's essential for securing Ball Bonus. When Latios/Latias/Mew/Celebi comes out, a maxed out TTar will more often than not be the best answer.

Additionally, its typing is really, really good (for offense). Dark double resists one of the types it targets and single-resists the other, and rock also takes care of commonly-seen Fire Blast and Hyper Beam.

I have exactely the same one powered up to lvl 31,5 with B/C. For most gyms I use him to clear the weak mons with Crunch being a three bar move.
