Tyranitar: evolve or wait?

Thanks to 2 simultaneous Larvitar hatches, I finally reached 125 candies and got an 87% IV one (13 attack).

With the gym rework around the corner, am I better off waiting for possible move changes or may I as well evolve now?

Consider that I need high CP mons and T-rex has already got some great available movesets.

Your first or have you already evolved one?

I only now reached 125 candies, so it's my first.

Actually I've only got my Dragonite like a month ago, so this Tyranitar feels even a bit early.

Then as advised below I would wait until you have enough candies to do at least enough powering to make him relevant. I suspect that the gym change is more likely to be an alteration to move speed/damage if anything at all. I do not expect new moves until gen 3. The only risk I would advise in regards to Tyranitar when moves change is that he may no longer be able to get bite-which is a carbon copy of Dragonites' DB. He will possibly follow a similar move pattern in the change whenever it happens, maybe stronger but his quick move cannot be faster.

I do not expect them to make moves legacies or add them with this rework though. But who knows for sure? Niantic is possibly the worst company in online gaming history in regards to customer communication.

I usually wait till I have enough candy for evolve and power-up to level 30. Within that time-frame if you don't have a better one then go for it. I wouldn't wait due to the rework on the evolve, but rather wait in case you hatch or catch a better one while you are getting candy to make it a viable CP.

T-rex moves aren't great. Hold on and wait and hope the gym rework gives him some better moves. Maybe even rock slide?

I strongly doubt that Tyranitar ever gets moves that are markedly "better" than the ones he has now.

He has a fast move right now that is strong and allows for great damage plus dodging. I doubt that he will ever get the Dragonite treatment of DT type moves and certainly nothing stronger than crunch for combined damage.

The reason for this is the meta. Since Dragonite must operate as a generalist to make specialized mons whose base stats are nearly as strong or stronger in the case of Tyranitar have similar strength moves will progressively make Dragonite more and more worthless. Add to that the fact that any super strong mon with rock stab moves crushes any hopes of flying type legendaries from ever being relevant I just would not place my money on Tyranitar ever getting markedly stronger moves. Even less likely that he gets a rock quick move. Maybe he will but I strongly doubt it. Niantic has been meticulous in controlling the meta and many mons that should have decent rock quick moves lost them or never got them. I wager that they didn't do all of that to then give them to a mon with better base stats than most of the overdue super rare Legendaries.

My guess is that if you wait you will be getting moves with a marginally increased damage rate and much worse dodgability. Then again Niantic could trick us all. I just wouldn't bet on it.
