Tyranitar CD Move

So as many in here already assumed, it will be Larvitar for the next community day. Does anyone have a good idea what is going to be the next special move?

Smack Down, fast rock type move, agains Ho-Oh it would rock, unfortunately it will leave before the CD

No, the announcement says that it's "an exclusive move" and "Fast TMs and Charged TMs will not grant exclusive move", so we must except the worst :(

The in-game notification only talks of charged TMs but that could very well be a mistake.

To be fair, it says: "Put those Charged TMs away, trainers!"

To me that sounds like we won't need any Charged TMs.

It would rock against a lot of things and be bad for the meta. I sincerely hope it's not Smack Down, we really don't need another pokemon that's the top of attacker of two separate types, especially as a CD mon.

I think it's either Smack Down or Rock Slide (Tyranitar actually learns it in main series)

According to a post on reddit, smack down is confirmed to be Tyranitar's exlusive CD move!

Not that I don't believe you, but do you have a source for this?

Larvitar would be pretty cool, and I'm kinda hurting for both Larvitar Candy and double dark TTars, as well as appreciating getting a double rock one.

It might just be one of those for the lols moves, like surf pikachu, dragon pulse ampharos or dracometeor Dragonite. I also hope for it as well.
Smackdown better not be wasted as an exclusive move, many other rock mons need it. And it’s a fast move unlike other charge moves.
Since almost everybody has invested in tyranitar giving it over the top exclusive moves which cannot be tm’ed hurts player base, kills variety against peers unlike getting starters viable.

A community day exclusive move doesn't limit it to only that Pokemon.

Plenty of Pokemon have Surf and Salamence also learns Draco Meteor, so even if Smack Down were to be Tyranitar's exclusive move, that doesn't rule out other Rock type Pokemon from having it, only other future Tyranitar.

Foul Play would be nice but I kinda like Houndoom having the best claim to it.

Tyranitar can't learn Foul Play in the main series so it would take some stretching of their rules. Dark Pulse would still be an upgrade over Crunch but a pretty minor one.

EDIT: Actually it can, by move tutoring.

I thought he could learn it through tutoring, the same way Dragonite learns Draco Meteor through tutoring

I stand corrected. I've looked at Tyranitar's bulbapedia page so many times that I'm baffled how I've missed it in the tutor moves part.

I don't think they will hand smackdown to Tyranitar which would make Golem obsolete and the meta even thinner. I assume it will get a dark charge move pretty much equal to Crunch. Foul Play seems a little to strong in regards to Dragonite getting DM as alternative to OR.

My guess is they will give him a better dark move like dark pulse. Alternatively they can go the defensive route and give him aerial ace (bye bye machamp).
Smack down is also a possibility, I don't like it but I don't think it will break the meta. It will only be available for 3 hours and most players won't have enough candy to evolve 6.

You wouldn’t need 6. You could get 300 candy on top of what you already have and get 3 or 4 Ttars.

I'm guessing Dark Pulse or Rock Slide to better compliment its offensive prowess. Also, you underestimate how many candies people can rack up during/before the event. I personally had earned enough candy to evolve 7 Charmanders into BB Charizards this last event.

Unless they were lazy with the text, we can assume Smack Down is out since it isn't a charge move. Disregarding completely random moves, there isn't really much to give it. Two that have been mentioned already to be likely contenders are Rock Slide and Dark Pulse. Without running numbers, I think both would provide minor upgrades without being completely gamebreaking or - even better - completely obsoleting the armies of Tyranitars people likely already have.

How would Rhyperior and Rampardos compare with Tyranitar with Smack Down?
