Would it be worth it to set Togepi as a buddy pokemon to get a jump on getting Togekiss when it comes out?
Or does it seem that there maybe a sort of 'gen IV evolutions' type of event involving the gen 4 evolutions of pokemon

It's impossible to know what type of events Niantic might be planning, but depending on moves (come on, Fairy quick move!), Togekiss will be a good Pokemon in both attack and defense (potentially in both Fairy and Flying). In that light, Togepi is a good choice for quick buddy candy considering how rare its family line is in the wild.

I have a few candies for one, hatched 3, got a 93IV one, and trying to make the best I can from it, because when get 4 hits, and palkia comes out, the only viable thing is going to be fairy, dragon will be a lot less effective than we'd like to acknowledge. I know dragonite and salamence are good, I have a 96 dragonite from the event, and and walking a 93 bagon, but against the sinnoh legends, dragons dont seem liek the best option, I just started 4 months ago and want to get a jump on gen 4

Plus it is the perfect example of how to properly shut down any machamp.

If Palkia comes with dragon tail/outrage, dragons will faint very quickly when fighting it, but they will also likely be the highest DPS counters to it, and DPS is king when it comes to racing the clock on raids and trying to get bonus damage balls. If Togekiss gets a quick fairy move and a good fairy charged move (dazzling gleam/play rough), it will be a very strong counter to Palkia, trading DPS for TDO when compared to Rayquaza/Dragonite and company.

As for shutting down Machamp in gyms (you really don't like Machamp do you? lol), Gardevoir already reigns supreme in that role.
Confusion/Dazzling Gleam completely walls Machamp (and Dragonite) and forces a swap. Togekiss could end up doing it better, but again, that will depend on the moves it can learn.

That said, yes, Togepi is a solid buddy choice for stockpiling candies in preparation for Gen 4.

The sinnoh dragons are like nothing we will ever see in GO, even the Tao Trio because THOSE have a lot more weaknesses, both dialga and palkia have the same defenses and giratina....oh arceus that HP...

No, I do not like machamp, I have found it to be, and this is my experience, an over rated piece of muscles that really doesn't live up to its reputation. Mostly because I have been playing for 4 months, and never once found it useful for anything other than Tyranitar raids, and even then, my Rhydon did more. Never understood the hype

I'm having an impossibly hard time believing a Rhydon outpaced Machamp against a Tyranitar unless there was a huge level discrepancy. You do know that lasting longer is not the same as doing more damage right? This is why people hate putting Aggron in front of things even though it sponges attacks.

EDIT: I just checked this using the site's DPS/TDO ranking. Against Tyranitar's most difficult moveset of Iron Tail/Fire Blast Machamp's best moves against it still pull ahead of Rhydon's best in BOTH categories, nudging over TDO by about 20 points and smashing DPS by almost a full ten. And this is against a moveset that Rhydon would theoretically struggle less with than Machamp! So not only are you doing less damage overall, you're taking longer to get there. But hey, keep using Rhydons and Aggrons if they make you feel better, I'll be sitting here with my extra damage balls and extra raid rewards as a result.

It's not a bad idea. I can't say if it's a GOOD idea, but I'm willing to say it's not a bad idea. I've got 300 candies (due to hatching 31 of them, including a bunch during a double candy event) so I'm not walking one. But if I only had about 100, I'd be walking one.

Its attack stat is a bit on the low side at 225 base, but it's got more bulk than Dragonite and a great typing. In today's gym defense meta, Togekiss would likely be THE Machamp deterrent. It's soft to Raikou and double rock Tyranitar though.

It does have the potential to learn a fairy quick move unlike Gardevoir, but the attack stat will likely hold it back from making any serious waves as a DPS attacker.

All-in-all, a mon to be on the lookout for but it's not certain at all that it'll be a meta star. I wouldn't go out of my way to prepare for it unless there wasn't anything better to do.
