Teach Tyranitar a second move or evolve a bad IV pulpitar?

I just made it to 100 larvitar candies. I currently have 3 smack down/stone edge tyranitars and one bite/crunch one. I am debating on wether I should evolve a 64IV pulpitar with 1444 cp or spend 75 thou stardust and teach my maxed out tyranitar crunch.
What is your take on it? Thanks!

What will you use the new ttar for? I would give your max a second move.

Thanks for your reply mostly for raids and fighting gyms. I heard that its good to invest into dark types right now. I dont want to max out another ttar (i have one dark/cruch maxed already but i figured having another ttar with cruch would do me well)

Tyranitar is likely to return to raids at the end of the Hoenn event. Personally I wouldn't bother with the Pupitar and would try to raid better Tyranitar.

Thanks for your reply! You are right but I dont really want to invest stardust into a 2100 ttar so i figured i could put crunch on a 3700 cp one but you might be right.

Consider all of your costs. At 64% I'm guessing your Pupitar is around level 31? You have the following options:

- Spend 75k/75 dust and candy on a max SD Ttar to teach it Crunch, paired with a non-optimal legacy move you won't want to TM away
- Spend 99 candy on a less than optimal Pupitar (you get one candy back when you evolve), no dust cost
- Spend 85k/74 dust and candy powering up another raid Tyranitar to minimum L31 to be the same level as Pupitar
- Do the same but with a weather boosted Tyranitar, dropping the costs to 54k/46 dust and candy

Frankly if you're willing to invest the cost in a second move for a Tyranitar you might as well raid one and power it up to match your Pupitar. That way you can pair Crunch with Bite and have a more effective dark attacker.

Interesting question.

Because Ttar's exclusive move is a Fast Move, that makes this a conundrum as you can't FTM it away and then back, and can't get a second Quick Move. And most of the time when you're using a TTar, you're looking to go after a Fire/Flying or a Psychic type, all of which take Neutral damage from the other Quick Move (Dark and Flying/Fire, Rock and Psychic). And with the changes to how Damage works, Neutral damage is not particularly useful anymore.

So in my opinion, neither of your options are good. Smackdown/Crunch Ttar is meh. I don't like evolving 64% IV Pokémon unless I'm getting an Exclusive Move (and even then, I'm evolving them to Trade after I get the Exclusive Move), and Bite/Crunch is not an exclusive move.

Can you trade with someone in your area (a Best Friend, hopefully) to get a Tyranitar rather than evolve that Pupitar or add Crunch to a Smackdown Ttar?

I'd hold off, at least until we see the next raid boss. If its anything but the lake trio, double dark tyranitar wont be needed, and double rock has relatively few match ups legendary wise outside the birds, who currently are all in research and unlikely to be raids this soon after coming back. I'd recommend stocking up on candy, and as others have said tyrantiar will likely return to raids after the hoenn event ends.

It would be better to evolve than go for a second move. Neither SD/Cr or Cr/Se is worth a TM nor the candy and dust.
Whether you should evolve or wait depends on immediate need. Do you have an immediate need for another B/C Ttar?
He would be useful for Metagross, Claydol, Solrock, and Lunatone; but all have alternative counters with more common boosting weather (unless you live in an especially foggy area).

There's currently not much use for Tyranitar. Wait until you actually need it, like when the Lake Trio comes to legendary raids or you want to try soloing Deoxys-A.

Bite is 12 DPS and 8 EPS.
Smack Down is 13.33 DPS and 6.67 EPS.

Against a raid boss that is neutral to rock and weak to dark, the low EPS will make Smack Down/Crunch a slow dark moveset. If you already had several dark Tyranitar and just needed to fill out a team, it would be okay. But as your second dark Tyranitar, it does not seem like a good pick.

If you have a good fighting team and another player that you can do Tyranitar raids with, wait until the next raid rotation and see if Tyranitar returns to raids.

Second move on a TTar is only really useful if you have a maxed out very high IV Bite/Crunch and want the second move for PvP.

Maybe power up a Weavile instead of doing any of the things you are considering.
