Stone edge on ttar
Why is stone edge seen as being a good move on ttar, here's how I see it:
Sub-par damage (only 100 for a full bar, crunch 55x3= 165)
No type compatibility with bite so can't be used as a specialist and ttar has bad generalist typing.
Outclassed by golem as a rock type attacker which is so much easier to get. I have 2 ttars and 7 golems
So why is stone edge good on ttar

Of Tyranitar's 6 combinations of movesets, B/SE has the highest cycle damage at 21.11/sec. B/C comes in second at 20.36. Everything else is 19.6 or less. So, most total damage against neutral foes. Now, Ttar isn't the damage machine that Dragonite is (DT/O is 24.14 CDPS), but it also has a typing that can get it bonuses, unlike Dragon which is strong but only goes up against other dragons.
But Crunch is A while Stonedge should be A-. Gamepress has Stonehedge on top per quote "Stone Edge is on par with Crunch. A 1 bar charge move is easier to dodge with. A 3 bar charge move results in less instances of over-kill and having to hold onto your charge move. Both moves have great DPS and cover different targets." Holding down your phone is no longer part of the game now you can tap for your charged moves which will shoot them out faster and Crucnh does 70x3 = 210 per Stonedge 100
Tyranitar's stats are so much better that it's pretty close to Golem and can surpass it in select situation even without a rock quick move (an example would be level 40 15a Tyranitar against Entei just hitting a breakpoint and getting a massive DPS boost that puts it above Golem).
As for which one is easier to obtain, eh. My pokedex shows 8 caught Golems against 47 caught Tyranitars.
For the first part, I agree 100%. Close Combat is widely considered a sub par charge move for Machamp, and that's with type compatibility with fast move Counter. Why the mentality is different for Stone Edge is beyond me.
But unfortunately here, Golem is much harder to get here than Ttar. And being outclassed doesn't mean it has no use! That's a very common wrong mentality.
Fully evolved Tyranitars are everywhere around here, I have 26 of them. I do see geodudes and I generally catch them, I've recently thrown some Golems away. I have 11 left, but going forward+right now. Tyranitar is easy, especially when partly cloudy (bonus boost) foggy (bonus boost) cloudy (Machamp attack is boosted)
I have crunch on all my level 40 ttars. I only changed it to stone edge for entei for 3 man since bite hit a breakpoint at 40 15 attack and has about the same or better kill time than level 40 golem. I switched it all back to crunch as it's more useful and best dark type attacker in the game. Rock meta is no more while dark tyranitar is very useful for mewtwo, t3 solo against alakazam gengar.
