Steelix worth it?

When the game first came out I was fortunate enough to catch a 100% Onix from a nest near me. I've been looking for a project to level up and I started thinking about Steelix. Now I know that it isn't a good attacker but I'm thinking about it as a defender. Is this thing worth evolving and powering up?

If you like it, then power up

Steelix currently is no Blissey or Snorlax in terms of defending, but with gyms now forcing players to only put in 1 of each type of pokemon, Steelix is OK to put into gyms if Chansey/Blissey/Snorlax/Vaporeon are inside already. Its Defense stat is excellent but defense does not matter as much as the main series games, but 300+ defense does help it with survivability.

100% IV mons are always a great way to diversify your maxed out mons team (instead of the boring ttar/dragonite/vape all at the top of the cp list)

IMO, Steelix is still a much better defender than the usual Dragonite/Tyranitar/Gyarados/Rhydon with their horrid 4X weaknesses.

I maxed out mine before I realized defenders were now worthless. I wish I had that 200k dust back.

Not sure why this was downvoted since it's an opinion. I nearly maxed mine when the new gym system was implemented and wish I had the dust back to power up another ttar or machamp.

If you don't have many defender options or just like steelix, esp kuz it's 100%, then feel free to power it up.

It's worth Evolving. Powering up... not so much right now as Defense is "nice", but underwhelming. It'd be nice if they could make Steelix into an actually practical defender (I know it's listed as an A list defender, but even filthy Casuals like myself have 6+ high level attackers for each of the Weaknesses of Steelix) but until then I'd mark that Onix/Steelix as a "Future Project" and not spend the Stardust on it.
