So that new pokemon is Meltan

Was expecting something more related to the nut head. And it's a legendary? Looks more like a mythical to me.
Edit: actually it is mythical.

Incognitto or Incognutto. Other people called it Incogditto or Nutface. I'd call it Murderface (Metalocalypse reference) for the lulz.

Voltorb says hi.

Before y'all jump down my throat about it, I'm not necessarily defending Nutto's design. It looks like something from a fan game and would probably be universally hated if it was. Since it's official though the Pokemon/Nintendo Defense Force will go to no end to praise it for being cute or whatever. I'm just saying Gen 1 has its fair share of underwhelming designs. I personally have no strong feelings about the design itself, the fact that it's mythical was a bit shocking to me.

Ditto seems to be even worse than Voltorb lol. And Meltan's pretty much Ditto with a nut for a head, and a tail made of electrical wires. At first it seemed like a placeholder to me as well. Though it is kind of funny due to the eye.

Gen 1 has a fair share of horrible design for sure. There's just an incredible amount of nostalgia protecting it and some really great designs as well that people always remember first when they think about their childhood with the handhelds, cards and/or the anime.
Makes you wonder how badly rushed the designers were to make several evolutions that are just the base form with 3 heads instead of 1.

The designs for Gen 2, which I never played, blew me away when I saw them in Go compares to Gen 1. Ariados and Piloswine in particular seem several steps past... the starters though, are a Wartortle-sized let-down in aesthetic.

Some of gen 2 pokemon were apprently originally supposed to be in gen 1 but they couldn't fit all the data so they left them out. I've wondered a few times why they didn't cut out the filler designs like Voltorb and replace them with the better designs they left unused.

IIRC Gen 1 was supposed to have 190 Pokemon, but I could be wrong. Some Pokemon from Gen 2 were also supposed to get evolutions but never did. This is pretty much why Dunsparce fell into obscurity outside a cult fanbase.

Agreed.
All gens have both awesome and ugly-looking designs. People just have a bad time looking at things objectively when blinded by nostalgia. I personally think gen 1 has some of the worst that unfortunately have become iconic for the franchise. All the fusion evolutions are a joke, and some Pokemon are just blobs of pink or spheres. We also have a blackface opera singer and some birds...

Dragonite, as the first pseudo-legendary is rather... underwhelming

Gen 5 got the worst of the hate imo. B/W forcing the player to use a brand new 151 until post game was enough to draw genwunners out of the woodwork to rip it a new one despite having not touched anything Pokemon related since RBY. For every questionable design like Vanillite you had amazing ones like Volcarona or Galvantula. The Klink line got picked apart despite being a mirror to the Magnemite line. Hydreigon might not be the most useful pseudo-legendary but it's got a soft spot for me.

I think the Gen 5 hate directly led to the Kanto pandering present in the series today, but that's a topic for another thread.

Genwunners really are silly. I hadn't touched Pokemon after a lot of gen 1 and some gen 2 until a friend told me I should try B/W because it's a great game so I did. Loved it and especially loved that I got to go on a nostalgia trip in the post game after discovering all the new pokemon first.

B/W were fun. While I didn't agree with all of the ideas implemented (some which unfortunately have stuck) I ended up spending more time on Gen 5 games than any other generation. What an absolute blast it was.

I know and I get you buddy, but we are talking about a Mythical Pokemon here. This is quite lame for a "special" Pokemon, honestly.

That's why I said I was surprised it was a Mythical. I expected cutesy filler marketing tool, but not Mythical. Then again Phione is kinda lame and Zeraora is uninspired so it's not like it's the first disappointing Mythical imo.

Yes, Screwit for the win. Ding ding ding. Thanks to everyone else for playing, and tune in next week to "Name that Weird Thing".

So, this was definitely just a weird glitch in the system and rather than just owning that the developers decided to try to tell us it was on purpose, right?
