.... no doubt, this double XP event is just so good. Current XP 19,907,516 (= 39.99). To mark the occasion, I will go to the city park where my legendary raids first began, hoping to have Rayquaza help me reach this milestone.

I did want to thank everyone on this board who has given me good advice and encouraged me as I progressed from noob to "almost 40" (I started playing on Oct 30, 2016; started posting here in Jan or Feb '17). You taught me how to prestige (back in the day, LOL), how to throw curve balls, and so much more.... and always patiently answered my "Should I power him up?" questions.
So thank you, and you'll be some of the first to know when I reach this goal! (I'll update here).
P.S. No, I have no plans to retire ... 40 isn't the end!

I started playing on 6 Sep 2016 and reached L40 last November. From L39 to L40 seemed forever and those 5 million XP looked so unreachable. Since reaching L40, XP becomes meaningless and yet they seem to come so much quicker; I will soon reaching 25 million XP.
Do take care of your item bag before you hit L40. The added items will make your bag overflow and stop you from getting new ones, including those windy 10km eggs . Just my 2 cents
De_Lana, I agree. The group here on this group has been awesome at giving help and advice since I began coming here.
Also, I’m in the same boat as you. Currently sitting at 19987911. While I could have evolved or raided my way to 40 a couple days ago I decided to ease into it, planning on leveling at the EX raid today, where I can be with all the local group who have been helpful and supportive.
I'm impressed you waited, so close.... I finally decided to just go to one of my favorite Go places and level up - and did. But my second goal for the day is to catch me another Ray (have not had much opportunity to raid, only have 2) and to meet up with people I have met thanks to this game.
I think it'll be awesome to hit 40 at the EX raid... do share. Hope you catch Mewtwo!!!
Caught my best Mewtwo so far. 78IV, 11 Att. Ugh. Hit 40. Leveled my legacy SC/SB Gengar to L40 after it fainted during the raid (by mini-revive powering...despite being 200 over bag max after leveling). Then went on a rayquaza hunt with several good friends met through Pokémon Go. A pretty good Pokémon Go day.
