Sky attack Moltres

Moltres will get sky attack on Moltres day

Probably going to give Ray a run for his money on flying dps.

Hot damn did I call that.

In a vacuum AS/OR Rayquaza still has higher DPS among flying types with at least one flying move. Against Machamp Rayquaza's double-flying moveset *barely* nudges it out in DPS while having either more or less TDO depending on the moves Machamp knows. In practice, the two are more or less tied in performance.

Overall yeah, for the flying-type crown you could say the... heat is on ;)

EDIT: I'm guessing it'll be TM-locked, which blows for anyone not wanting to rush out and catch a new one. I personally don't think it's *as bad* of a scenario as Thunder Shock Zapdos as fire and flying type moves have different uses, but c'mon Niantic. Why you gotta play us like this?

EDIT EDIT: 3k dust guaranteed per raid? Holy shit, rev up those star pieces ladies and gents.

TRIPLE EDIT: Against targets where fire and flying type moves have the same effectiveness like Tangela then the crown goes to Moltres hands down.

SA Moltres is above BB Blaziken against grass and bug. Stupidly powerful, in other words. I swore I wouldn't spend resources on exclusive move legendaries but I'm swaying here.

Also the fifth highest neutral DPS in the game when sorting by best moveset, above DT/OR Dragonite.

My mind is kind of blowing thinking of 1-hour star pieces started in the lobby of a Kirlia raid that's 2 hits from death, followed by a mass hatch, feeding 290 berries and lots of catching.

Also depends on level. Ray has Moltres just edged in dps at 30 and 40 in a battle against machamp, but Moltres actually edges him out at lvl 35 due to break point locations. Also in clear weather he beats Ray by a lot, and clear weather is a lot more common than windy (at least in my location).

I'm really pumped about this. Sky Attack, the best Flying move in the game, will now have a power user. AND this combo doesn't completely step on the toes of any all-Fire Moltres you might have already powered up. Plus the stardust. First big win from Niantic in a while. Although, as a Mystic player, of the birds Articuno got the move shaft outside Japan...

If it's any consolation it's not like Hurricane gives Articuno an edge in any given matchups.

There is no lie there. Actually, I looked into alternative Ice moves for Arti, and unless they were to introduce a new move, there wasn't anything of note. Really only Powder Snow was in play.

Powder Snow wouldn't do anything for its effectiveness either. They could have been major dicks and given it Avalanche. That puts it above even Piloswine for neutral DPS and gives it top 3 DPS against DT/OR Rayquaza, only behind Jynx and Rayquaza itself, but with nearly double the bulk.

If only it learned Avalanche. Alas, it doesn't. Which is a shame to have the paragon of ice not know the game's best Ice move...

And, no, PS wouldn't have done much for Arti, but it would have been different.

Of course Moltres will get the better end of the deal, it is the best bird and it represents.

I think it would be hilarious if Niantic said the challenge was not meet and there was no Moltres day.

The asshurt would be so severe, I'd probably be affected by it.

On a related note, this is why I don't think the ultra bonus unlock would be the Gen 4 debut. It needs to be something we could get by without, not something that would be an immovable roadblock to game completion. If Gen 4 was the unlock, the goal wasn't met, and they released it anyway then what incentive would there be for people to participate in future challenges?

Spoiler, there is no incentive to participate in any challenge... they will ALWAYS say the goal was met.

Not necessarily. I think the main series might have failed some global challenges before and if not that, some other games have for sure. Failing them is bad, but so is blatantly autocompleting them, the damage is kind of already done when the goals are public and they've been estimated wrong.

IIRC, literally the first global challenge of Gen 7 was failed. There was no consolation prize it was just "tough titties, do better next time" and they made the challenges easier to meet since then.
